Piezo Switching

Hi there

I see a lot of multimode mods using circuits designed to use the stock clicky switches from the hosts used.

I was just wondering how easy (or even if its possible) to modify one of the multimode drivers/make a driver to have a piezo switch instead of the clicky.

i have seen circuits that convert the piezo pulse into an on/off switch- could you run this in series with one of the multimodes drivers?

looking at a basic multimode pattern, like High, Low, SOS. Nothing too fancy, but something based on the 8amc7135 driver for the P7. Is it as easy as putting the piezo circuit in series with the P7 multimode driver based on the AMC7135 chips seen elsewhere on the board?

thanks for any input

edit- kinda like this-

That looks very interesting and I would think quite doable with todays drivers.
I personally hadn't heard of piezo switches but a quick google search opened my eyes. piezoswitch.com has a lot to offer and fair explanations, I didn't have time for any further reading but I would encourage you to bread board something and keep us posted.

Thanks for opening my eyes a little more..
And welcome to the forums.

wow, interesting idea.
If you succeed in making this work you might either have solved the problem with high resistance switches for hotwires or have created more resistance in the circuit but nonetheless displayed an innovative idea none [as far as I can find on the forum] of us have thought of:)

good luck!:welcome:

I should make it totally clear that the circuit diagram is not entirely mine. Ive been working with the piezo circuit i found on another site, and simply added the driver and LED notes where the original schematic called for a halogen bulb. I have only a rudimentary understanding of what the piezo circuit does (converts the piezo pulse into an on/off switch) and thought that this could replace the normal click switch mechanism.

Mods- if i need to link in the original schematic source, id be happy to. let me know. Dont want to run foul of the rules.

itll be a couple of weeks before i prototype it, since om waiting for the drivers and some spare time.... just wanted to make sure it looked sound before i started.

Cheers

Hey,

Any updates on this. I was also looking on doing this. I was actually using a piezo for switching my Halogen Canister Mag conversion, but I was using a controler called the Dive Light genie from PCMUS. I had seen the circuit that you mention and I also want to use my existing piezo switch but with the new LED drivers. My only consideration is the amount of amperage that the P7 needs to run and the Piezo circuit would have to have a very efficient transitor in order to maintain a high eficiency. I'm also guessing that it will get really hot. Anyway I have been looking everywhere to see what the best solution is.

Hopefully someone has some input.

Thanks,
