PILA IBC Charger question

Just received my JETBeam RRT 3 and 3M (Warm) from Bugout. Thanks Bugout. Also purchased 4 Jetbeam 18650 2300mA Li Ion batteries and the PILA charger.

Batteries all arrived with 3.86v so I decided to top them up. 3 times now the red light comes on but after half an hour or so the RHS red light starts to flash red. The LHS stays solid red for the duration of the charge then green.

Does anybody have an idea why this is happening? I am guessing it may be the overcharge protection tripping in the battery. Should I be concerned?

Thanks

Swap the positions of the two batteries, if the problem moves,it is the battery, it the same side still bliks red, its the Pila.

BTW, welcome to CPF. You have a nice setup there and the Pila should give you years of great service. I have two, one in my office and one in my laptop bagfor when i am on the road.

Tried that, only effecting the RHS charging bay. Will give them a few more cycles and see what happens. It's just annoying having to watch it and reset.

Thanks Papuga. Love these torches too

Pila's like running full cycle's, generally not possible with 'nearly charged' cells. If the above testing proves inconclusive, try discharging the cells before charging them. Pila's can also be picky about cells. But in this case, if bought everything together, I'd contact the dealer.

Thanks ElectronGuru.

Tested the PILA, definately faulty RHS charging bay. Email sent to Flavio. Fingers crossed.

PILA IBC Charger problem

My problem is as follows

The RHS battery bay keeps reseting after running for 8min 39seconds without a battery in the bay, going from a ready to charge condition to a slow flashing red light, indicating a fault with the battery, even when there isn't a battery inserted. I have tested it numerous times and it always resets after that time period. It wont fully charge my batteries when they are inserted in this bay and keeps reseting.

Input voltage from the AC to DC inverter supplied is 6.17v no load.
Voltage across the + - terminals of the battery bay varies between 4.11v to 4.17v no load.

The LHS bay is working fine.

Any ideas on what the problem is/how to rectify?

Thanks

Devon

Hi, Devon. I'm confused. Is this question about something different than here...?

Regardless, good luck getting your problem sorted. The Pila is a relatively expensive charger, and it would stink if it went belly up.

Did you check the solder? It's possible one of them has come loose. The soldering on the female end of the plug on my IBC is a bit loose, but the charger still works fine.

If not the last resort would be to ask Pila (in HK, I'm afraid) to fix/replace your charger, if there isn't a Pila distributor nearby.

Re: PILA IBC Charger problem

Hi,
I'm from italy and I have a problem with my new Pila.

The problem is:

During charging the Leds on left and right battery bay are solid red.
At the end on the charge the leds on LEFT battery bay is solid green , but the leds on RIGHT bay are solid green and blinking red.
If i swap battery left to right and righ to left the problem the problem is still in the right battery bay.

Voltage across the + - terminals of the LEFT battery bay varies between 4.08v to 4.18v, but on the RIGHT battery bay is fixed to 4.14.

Re: PILA IBC Charger problem

I had similar trouble with the right side bay.

Suggest you have the unit replaced.

I thought the Pila was supposed to be the best charger available...

I thought beamers and caddys were supposed to be the best cars? Is every one flawless?

Being the "best" translates to "less bad" than everything else available in this circumstance.
