Help me find the perfect light:

Here are the requirements:

Rechargeable
Maximum bightness
Maximum throw
Must be a handheld flashlight (no spot/searchlights)
Price: $1.00-$500.00

The Streamlight UltraStinger comes to mind. I'm also interested in knowing more about the Tigerlight FBOP model. Are there others out there that are brighter and/or have more throw? What I am most interested in is a tight beam that is thrown as far as possible. Thanks for your input/suggestions. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/help.gif

How about trying Surefire's 8AX and 9AN Commander?

The 8AX puts out 110 lumens worth of light for 50 minutes on a single charge.

The 9AN puts out 20 lumens for 2.5 hrs or at the turn of the bezel a 140 lumens for 40 mins on a single charge.

Alternatively you can purchase any flashlight and load in rechargeable batteries like the Pilas.

Sorry... But really need more information. The basic answer would be an HID flashlight such as the X990. I think it is just under $500.(?) But it is not a standard form factor--

For bright, far throwing beams, some sort of arc lamp (HID or Xenon Arc), followed by a Halogen Bulb (much cheaper) with big reflectors are going to the best bang for the buck.

You would probably get a better answer if you start placing some of your limitations/requirements in this thread--how long, what diameter, diameter of head, weather/water proof, max weight, how you are going to carry it, rugged (LED) or not (HID), use of light, beam (laser like spot, something with a hot area but good spill), special features (pepper spray, cold weather, car/110/220 recharge), expected run-time, quick change batteries, quick charge, expected life of bulb, ease to obtain parts, reliability, store bought/CPF limited/build your own, etc...

The StreamLight is a good flashlight from what I have read here.

If you are wanting brightness, a flashlight format, and rechargable. You never mentioned run-time as a factor.

I sell Pila Flashlights but given that a $500 light is in the price range you are looking for and you want to maxamize throw and brightness, I cannot recomend a Pila light.

Surefire 10x

12volt SureFire with the 500 lumen bulb being powered by two Pila 168s (out of print 12zm comes to mind)

One of the Hid Flashlights-I can't be too specific as I am not familiar with many of these.

How do you intend to use a tight, long throw beam?

I ask because unless you have a specific application in mind where your other lights have failed, they are not all that practical. Most people would be better served with just the opposite, a nice wide flood type beam that puts out a wall of light, not a pencil point of light.

Might want to check out the MagCharger. Replacing the stock bulb with a $3 Welch Allyn 01160 turns it into the reigning stock King of Throw. There are many threads on this, and it is quite popular. It's also around 500 lumens.
