Tonight I added a smoothed quarter on top of a smoothed nickel for more heatsinking. Now the light gets warm but not excessively so as before. I will post some outside beamshots another night as it is very foggy tonight. This light is more of a flood to about 50 or 60' but is very nice for it's size.

Now for the picks. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Still DD? You really should consider a resistor even if it is underrated for this wattage.
Edit:1 ohm resistor

Just a thought for you...

If you are over driving the LED, it will create a lot of heat. If that heat does not go somewhere, it bakes the LED to death.

The only place the heat can go is the body of the light.

Heat sinks don't cool off an LED, they simply allow the heat to be moved to cooler areas.

So if you have a cooler light body and nothing else has changed, it means you have a LESS EFFECTIVE heatsink and it will die even quicker.
