I am posting in this forum as I expect some of the more technical from the Candlepower Community come here.
I am interested in putting together a Goniophotometer for project use. By Poor Man's, I am looking at something under $5,000 U.S. I need something for development purposes and can not justify $750 every time I need something tested. General spec's I am looking for:
- Automated: I can't afford the time to make 100's of measurements by hand
- Minimum 2 degree resolution, preferably 1 degree (at least within +/- 10 degree of center)
- 5lbs/2.5kg light source weight (and could possibly live with less)
A simple light meter is not going to cut it, so I am budgeting at least $2,000 for a spectrophotometer. Edmund Optics has some in that range. That leaves 2 motorized rotary stages with position feedback and some simple mechanicals.
If I could find 3-4 others interested, perhaps we can work together on the design and work out some deals on parts. Perhaps we will be competitors in a future life, but at least we can lay a beating on the less equipped....
