The title says it all...post if you've never owned a Maglite. I haven't and I'm just curious how many flashaholics have never owned a Maglite.

Cant see why id want, too. I have thought about doing a mag mod, that was the only time I considered buying one. I may just for good old sake. otherwise no not interested. Waste of money

I think they served a purpose in the incandescent world and still have a purpose in the LED world today. They are US made, good price and readily available. I think they are traditional family flashlight for a US family home.

I always wanted one when I was a child but could never afford it. I was hooked when I saw an advertisement showing the D cell Maglite being run over by a truck in the rain and surviving. To this day I still don't have a D cell Maglite, although I did buy a LED Maglite for my grandfather as a present from the US. I almost still want one, just for nostalgia's sake...

Never took that step and purchased a Maglite in my flashaholic life. Before I became enlightened, I saw Maglites as the brightest lights available and wanted to have one, but they were (and still are), expensive here. Then I bought a cheap Romisen LED light online, which lead me to wanting more. Before I knew it, I found out that there were other lights out there that were brighter, smaller and cheaper than Maglites, so I never could find a reason to own one.

If I did buy one, there'll be a good chance it won't be in its stock form.

I'm sure all the Old-timers have owned many models of them ......

And that is why they SO MUCH appreciate the improvement of LED lights ......

and why they STILL hate ringy beams !

The only GOOD MAG light .... is one modified to L.E.D. status !

but I don't / and never have ... owned an L.E.D. equipped MAG light .

I still have a 3-D mag light somewhere in the bottom of my tool chest .

It has not been used or even searched for in the last 8 years , and never will be again. (it didn't know it ... but it's in it's GRAVE - For Eternity ! )

(Yes ... I read the OP title ... being contrary ... old guys DO that ! )

What if I've never owned a stock Mag? I've had a dozen modified mags that bear little resemblance to their original selves.

it's about me 🙂

When they were new, they were the best deal,
just take into account when that was!
Most ppl posting here - including me - were not even planned by their parents then
😉

I always used to look on them as the creme de la creme of the flashlight world (before I met anything really nice) and so I always coveted one. I never got around to getting one though. Currently I have a couple of 3D mag bodies that are far from useable that I hope to have some fun with at some point, but I have never owned a working one.

There seems to be a common theme not just here but in other threads as well, and that's we all though maglite's were the best brightest highest qualitly flashlights out there, until we got introduced to the good stuff.

Yup and then a 9 led 3x aaa seemed bright and then came cpf. I never bought a mag but owned a few growing up. I remember being young and thinking something was wrong with the fact that they came with replacement parts(though it quickly made sense!).

Yes ... there was a good reason for that spare bulb stored in the tail cap !

But they really should have made room for 4 xtra bulbs .

It's Soooo Nice that LED's don't blow if you drop your light .

I do NOT miss ....... 3 pound flashlights !

A few years ago I thought Maglite 6D was one of the brightest flashlights on the market. Also I considered it worth to carry around the beast for the impressive brightness. Nowadays when I try it I become a bit fascinated how I could perceive it like a very bright flashlight. Also I earlier thought the 2D was quite bright for its size... It's just to confirm: I have got new references!
Maglites still are good hosts for modding with LED-dropins, however.

It's hard to imagine anyone that's made their way here as never owning a Maglite of some sort. I guess there is the younger generation... Growing up as kid in the 80's, a Mini-Mag AA was an essential for any adventuring lad. I used mine for years to explore all manner of storm drain and urban forested area. 😀 You can't really appreciate the new stuff without having suffered through the old stuff!

Edit: and I agree with TooManyGizmos! Until you've broken a few bulbs by dropping your light, you'll never fully appreciate the ruggedness of modern LED packages.

I have, though i converted one to a malkoff and one to a rop. After that they saw a lot of use.
