Powerstream 1/2 D\'s vs. Magcharger Stock batts

I recently purchased the Powerstream 1/2D's for my Magcharger with intent to run a Welch Allyn 01160 bulb (5V, 3.45A, billyuns of lumens... well, alot anyway). My question was, is there a difference between these cells and the stock ones? There is a stated capacity difference of 2200 vs 2500mah. But how about the performance? I ran two tests for voltage and current. The first was on freshly charged cells. The second was after 10 minutes of runtime on each using the M/C and 01160 bulb. The results:

Fresh off charger -
Mag Stock - 6.84V, 3.65A
Powerstream - 7.17V, 3.75A

After 10 Mins runtime -
Mag Stock - 6.26V, 3.53A
Powerstream - 6.41V, 3.64A

Seems the Powerstreams are a good investment if you are intending to run the same combo I am (which I have additionally outfitted with UCL (D size works) and Clip 'n' Grip (which significantly assists in carry-ability). I got 10 for $36, shipped. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif There is no reason to get them shrink wrapped; they fit fine as is.

The results of this combo with PS batts/01160 exceeds the Tiger in hotspot, throw AND spill, in any comparison you care to conduct. The Tiger has a better shaped hotspot, but otherwise places second to what I call the "Magcharger +".

Nice results!

I wonder how the 1/2Ds would do with the WA01185 bulb.

Phaserburn,

It looks like that difference in capacity makes a big difference. I'm not familiar with the Magcharger. How many of those 1/2Ds were you using?

Another choice for big rechargables!

The Magcharger holds 5 cells for a rated 6V. It is a 3D body equivalent in size, 1/2D's being around 3/5D in reality.

Are you refering to the batteries? I think you were, but in conext it sounded like you might be referring to the grips.

In any case, where did you get the PowerStream 1/2D's?

Do you by any chance know the estimated blub life for the WA01160 in this configuration?

Thanks for all the great info !

I just got a 1160 for mine, so I can't say about bulb life. Rated life at 5V is 550 hrs, so it should be only a fraction of that at 6V+. I was refering to the the cells, yes. I got the batts from www.powerstream.com.

FlashlightOCD, the 01160 should last right in the ballpark of 90-100 hrs. in the MagCharger.

90-100 hrs would be outstanding, the stock 40,000cp bulb that Mag includes with the MC is only rated at 40-50 hours.

I suspect the PowerStream batteries might reduce that life even further because of the higher voltage and amperage.

Time will tell.
