I've been seeing these PR base 3 white LED lamps on eBay recently, and now I see there is one that's rated for 3 volts. Does anyone know if the 3 volt lamps put out as much light as the 4.5 or 6.0 volt 3 LED conversion lamps? I have a couple of flashlights that use PR base lamps, and run on 2AA batteries. This 3 LED lamp would make a great conversion for a 2AA flashlight, but only if it puts out full power light, of course. Thanks.

These generally cost $18 and are available HERE. From SafetyLED.com. I build my own, but only for 4.5-6V applications. I can't find any data about a step-up or anything in the bulb.

if only someone made these with a long bi-pin base, so I could stick it directly into the Petzl low-beam socket -- the only other led conversion like this I've heard of for the Petzl Duo that preserves the (filament) hi-beam is a $100+ conversion...

Again: There are a couple of conversion kits. One is offered by LuxBrite, several others by homebrewers.
And Petzl will offer one next year.

PeLu, can you offer more information about the one Petzl's going to offer? I'm very interested.

Perhaps they do... Check out this page and see if anything matches..... They all look like pretty low mcd output though....

It will be about the same as the LuxBrite DuLux conversion kit.

BTW, there are two very simple solutions:

1st: take just a LED and put it into the socket. And replace one AA cell with a dummy. And the high beam with the Zoom's halogen bulb.

2nd: take a LED and solder the approbriate resistor to the anode (!) and put it into the socket. You decide what you maximum current will be...
You may even make a 'spare' with a different resistor (for emergency use) and put it into the 'spare holder'.
