While replacing my mailbox that someone ran over during my neighbors Christmas party last week, I found my missing old pre-lawsuit Brinkman 2AA that I spoke of in an earlier thread.

I posted some pics of the the pre-lawsuit Brinkmann 2AA, the Sears 2AA, and the Mini-#ag 2AA side by side. As you can see they are nearly identical. The Brinkmann has a slightly different tailcap and lanyard attachment. The Sears clone is more robust and uses a screw in bulb instead of a bi-pin one. All three have a candle mode. The Sears clone has lived in my toolbox for a long time, since the 80's, and gotten hard use, and although the finish is wearing off, it still works fine and is my favorite of them all. I bought it for around $6 back when mini-#ags were around $15 alone without the nylon holsters and accessories.

Now you can get a mini-#ag at Walmart for 8 bucks with holster and a 2 pack of extra bulbs. I just returned that old one with the frozen tailcap I spoke of in an earlier thread and they gave me a new one with holster and extra bulbs - no hassle at all - kudos to Walmart. I now have a nice shiny new pewter colored model all ready for my first LED drop in mod. I don't know which one to put in it though, any suggestions? I want a bright flood type beam with long battery life.

Here are some pics of the pre-lawsuit days clones.I don't know how to put the pics in the post itself...can anyone tell me how to do that? (edit: thanks B@rt!)I don't have a digital camera here, so these were taken with a webcam, hence the lack of resolution.

The pics are bigger at this link, I'm new at posting pics on CPF, I don't know why they are so small.

I would take issue with M@g L*ght taking legal action against other flashlight companies we know, but I don't think I could fault them over that

I actually really like brinkmans new 2aa models with the clicky tail cap much better than the mag style, so I'm glad they updated...

Is there a reason you guys are subbing out characters in the names? (ie. "mini-#ag", "M@g L*ght") Is there a flashlight secret police that we need to be watching out for or what?

Apparently, m**light is deriving a percentage of their income from lawsuits.

Their litigous "big brother" may find something offensive here and decide and add more defendants to their growing list.

Someone had a post a while back describing their shenanigans.

I guess most here are trying to play it safe by not using the real name especially if what they have to say is not complimentary.

Also, for me, typing *ini*ag reminds me how much I tend to dislike a company that spends more on lawyers than on engineers in an atempt to "stay in the lead" ...

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">Dude! That's a no-brainer. Get a BB400 from Dat2zip. Add a kroll if you want, and definitely replace the lens. At least a mineral glass lens. Or, sapphire if you got the bucks.
Great AA scaglite mod!!

I think my future LED mod replacements will be with Brink 2AA rather then Mags. After recent events posted here, I'm not too keen on giving them my money. Granted it won't make any difference but it will make me feel a little better.

Stingray, as you must have probably read thru the posts, there are a ton of mods for your light now. Everything from a badboy for superbright to an Opalec for long life. Hard to get both, superbright and longlife but perhaps the Inretech mod is the closest compromise. It will at least start out bright and give long life. Of course you can always use rechargeables with one of the regulated lights.

I have read thru many posts regarding the different drop in LED mods for the 2AA. They all sound good. Is there a short list, kind like a cheat sheet, that lists them down the line with one or two lines of highlights of strengths and weaknesses of each one? Sorta like

1) BB500
2) BB400
3) Madmax
4) Opalec
5) Inretech
6) eg. XYZ - regulated - bright flood for full life of batteries - 5-7 hr battery life - straight drop in - $20

I can't remember the rest offhand but I know there are more, no offense to those I've omitted, I'm old/bad memory
