FWIW, I've had a firsthand encounter with a regular car's regular battery going up in ~8-foot-tall flames, just sitting in a parking lot at night in good weather, where it had been sitting turned off for several hours. (It was a neighbor's, not mine.)

The backseat catches fire and that guy gets out just before the car went up.
Not let's rehash that incident and this time apply two kids strapped in car seats.

Really need to move past the lithium chemistries as soon as possible.
