Inspired by this thread, I couldn't resist asking the question:poke:

My keys are getting beat up from the ultra tough finish on my Arc AAA-P... what can I do to protect them?

Enjoy.

You serious?...If so try a thin rubber sleave to slip over it

I let my keychain light hang outside of my pocket on a Mag Solitaire cloth lanyard and let the keys free hang inside my pocket. It's a comfortable carry because the keys don't bunch up at the bottom of my pocket, and my light is always ready to use.

And nope, my keys don't fall out. I also carry a pocket knife with a clip, and that can slide down and lock my keys in if I want.

I used to carry the Arc AAA on my keychain because it was small enough for my pocket. But with this method of carry, I can use a larger light. I now hang a Fenix P2D on my keys, giving me a lot more light and a clicky switch, both are features that are much better than the Arc.

In most cases, I can click on my pocket light and use it without taking my keys out of my pocket.

Your keys are probably just really old an out of date...like your Arc...:nana:

You guys are pokin' fun at my question, but it is a serious problem for us Arc AAA-P owners. These ultra-durable, ultra-reliable keychain lights that use the latest LED's can wear out soft metal items like keys and stuff.

There has to be a better suggestion than just getting tougher keys.

I constantly have to tell my arc not to be so rough with my keys

"you are heavily anodized aluminium, stop picking on the poor, defenseless keys.."

my leatherman usually has a good laugh while this happens...

When I first got my BS era arc, I noticed wear on the knurling. I thought oh no! Then I realized that it was the brass of my keys rubbing off on the arc!!! I rubbed it off and was relieved!

The plastic part of my keys stands no chance, but when the plastic is hitting the arc...it keeps the arc away from the important part of the key. Just adding some character to my keyring. And the other side of the arc is my grocery store savings card...don't really care if the arc eats a hole in that.

Shrink tube baby. :D

It that clear shrink?......man where have I been? I didn't even know it existed! :ohgeez:

Yep and though I've not used it I believe there is also GID shrink. The stuff shown there is kinda thick though. My regular colored stuff is of thinner walled plastic but this works.

I can see where you would need protection [or just a little padding] if your carrying multiple HAIII lights in the same pocket, but other than the window of lights generally keys don't do that much damage unless you are moving ALL THE TIME

LT,

Very neat idea!

Thanks. I've also done it to a red LOD that a friend has. It seems to work even better there because of the tail design.

This is one I did with the thinner walled stuff.

Also helps if you have to grab it in your teeth. I've read about trying Plasti-dip and they have clear now too but I've not tried that. I think it'd be hard to do the head.

When I had this problem (NDI anodizing chewing up side of mobile phone) I solved it by putting some electrical tape on the phone. You could maybe find a small pouch where to keep your keys?

The Arc-P was so tough ... I had to get one of my keys remade (or whadeva you call it) ... I was think some thin cable sleeving would do the trick (Something with Kevlar and CF would be cool) ...
