Sold/Expired Protective Bezels for Aspherical Lenses Interest Thread

KHT: Added!

I'm sensing some scope creep here, but I'm willing to put in a call to Mells Griot on Monday to get a quote on availability and hopefully some sort of price break for a group quantity buy. Since I already own two MG 01 LAG 123 asphericals I would be open to purchasing the 33mm focal length version MG 01 LAG 010. I will also request the addition cost for front and back side Single-layer MgF2 AR coating.

How many of you are interested in a group lens buy?

Hi! I have the Mac aspheric mod and would love to have a bezel for it that would shield the lens from peripheral vision. Don't need or want any crenellations at all, especially sharp ones - except for their ability to protect the lens from a drop. :poke:

Then maybe you will be interested in the Flat-Top design bezel I have whipped up for Karl. I have the conceptual model done and I will be posting it here shortly as promised.

Here are the revised designs of both the Finned-Slotted-Crenellated & Flat-Top aspherical protective bezels. I know the slots were not turned into plain holes, but I like the slotted look better. If the slotting feature proves to increase the bezel cost significantly then I can always ommit them from the design.

The intent of these two designs is to allow the use of both the MG 01 LAG 123 and the MG 01 LAG 010 lenses provided that the edge thickness is the same on both. These concepts are eaisily applied to the KD aspherical bezel as well.

I know some of you have expressed interest in the more aggressive crenellated look, but for now I need to focus on what the majority of members have requested in order to keep this project from becoming vaporware. I to am still interest in doing a run of extreme crenellated bezels, but this will have to be a consideration for a future run. For now I'm willing to more forward with these two basic models in order to narrow down the project scope. Continue to feel free in offering your input.

I'm in for a MG lens. I need some help in chosing the 123 vs the 010. Can someone explain why one would want one or the other of these MGs?

Thanks

JohnTZ, I think AlexGT pointed out the most significant feature; having to unscrew the head less in order to achieve good focus when using the MG 01 LAG 010 lens because of it's shorter 33mm focal length.

However, the 33mm FL does make the lens center thicker by 2mm, but I have already compensated for that in latest design revision.

For now I'll put you down for Qty one 010 just let me know if you change your mind.

I would say that the benefit of having a 33 mm FL over a 37 mm FL is that you won't have to unscrew the bezel too much to get good focus.

Icarus, 3rdrock, tx101, AlexGT, JohnTZ & QtrHorse all added to the group lens buy list.

Anyone else? Again, I will be calling Mells Griot on Monday for the quote so it would be helpful to have all interested parties accounted by Monday 12 noon.

Just confirming - I will definitely buy one to this design.

Just by way of wondering about SS compatibility - how different are the KD and MG lenses? Do they only differ by edge thickness, or is it diameter as well?

I've got you down for 1 Flat-Top.

I just looked at this lens on SS site and the edge thickness does look thicker than the MG. However, the diameter is 52mm which is the same as the MG. The difference in the edge could be a show stopper so there is no way I could guaranty compatibility.
