Time for another update!

I had an encouraging conversation with my machinist this morning about pricing and styles of bezels to be made. I also got the necessary cost on materials I was looking for so here is what we can offer.



The M.G.A.F.T. Polished S.S. Bezel @ $40 (Mag-D Head not included)


The M.G.A.C. Polished S.S. Bezel @ $50


The M.G.A.C.F.S. Polished S.S. Bezel @ $80


I think most members are leaning towards the polished 303 S.S. anyways so I'm going to lock in that material for now. I will also be including o-rings with each bezel as the stock mag bezel o-rings won't work here.
I still need to figure out shipping costs so that will be extra, but no charge for the handling.

At these prices I am at the low end of the range on all three styles and in the case of the M.G.A.C.F.S. I was able to go even $5 lower. My machinist really sharpened his pencil on this deal in order to make it possible. Being the owner / operator of his own shop he enjoys seeing the entrepreneurial spirit in action.

At this point I don't need 50 piece per style in order to make them available, but I would like the total to number of bezels to be at least 50 or more. I'm sorry if these prices still seem to high for some of you, but this is the best I can do right now.

tx101: I know this not the pricing you had hoped for, but I didn't exceed the $100 limit. Plus the M.G.A.C.F.S. version is now available.

1dash1: Primarily the difference between the KD and the Melles Griot lenses is the edge and base diameter. The KD has a very pronounced shoulder or flange on it and a smaller base diameter , base diameter meaning where the curvature of the lens intersects with the flange, making it compatible with a face seal o-ring groove found on the stock Mag bezel.

The MG on the other hand has a very small shoulder and larger base O.D. so two things needed to change with the MG design. I made a larger bezel through bore and a side mounting o-ring groove in order to properly capture the lens making it necessary for two different designs. The MG style bezel will also use a thicker cross sectional o-ring with a different diameter size.

I did another quick measurement of the KD lens and compared it to the opening on the MG style bezel to test out your fit question. I found that you might be able to use your KD lens and have it work well enough to stay captured by the bezel and o-ring, but it will probably be very sloppy. Using a larger o-ring is more than likely a non-starter unless you find a metric o-ring to fit the bill. Unless you plan on buying a Melles Griot aspherical in addition to your KD lens I'm not so sure I would take the chance as I can't guaranty your satisfaction. Provided I remeber to, I will attempt this fit test once the bezels are being made.

I cannot commit to something that may not work. Moreover the price tag for the crenelated version has escalated beyond what would be reasonable for me to spend. Therefore, I regretfully withdraw my previous order. 🙁

If you can confirm that the simple (flat-top) version will work with the KD lens, please PM me with the cost and I might be willing to sign back up.

BTW what host are you guys going to use for these? Would a p7 mag work? I never had a aspherical lens before. Do these allow the mag to focus? Will the lens be able to focus a P7? Just trying to plan the rest of the light 🙂

Just so we are clear...from your reply to 1Dash1, these are being designed for the Melles Griot LAG-123 lens, correct?

Although it is likely, I would not assume the MG LAG-010 will fit unless you check.

1dash1: I took a closer look at your KD lens compatibility issue and if a thicker o-ring with the right durometer is used it looks promising. As you can see here in the models a thicker seal appears to help significantly. I placed an order today for the the thicker o-rings in a few different durometers so once the first few bezels are made I can do some test fitting.

rayman: Glad you like it. Provided everyone pitches in their 25% deposits in a timely manner I hope to have the first bezels fabbed within a week or two, possibly sooner. My machinist is ready for the raw material at any time. When he finallt receives it I will schedule a Saturday at his shop to mitigate any fit problems and ensure the bezel design is sound.

Lux: Got you locked! Glad you are okay with the pricing. I am actively investigating the possibility of making the MG style bezel compatible with a KD lens just by using a thicker, softer o-ring. As you can see in the models above it looks doable. Thanks for leaning on the side of caution with the MG 01 LAG 010 lens. Since I don't own one I can't be absolutely sure it will fit properly. Can anyone confirm the 010 has the same base dimension as the 123?

Since the cost of these bezels is higher than I had anticipated, can I cancel
my interest in the MG 010 lens.

I will definitely take two bezels but which ones will depend when final payment is required ..... I have to find the extra pennies from somewhere 😀

I haven't been following this thread and didn't realise that further input was needed, apologies. I also need to revise my interest given the price increase and the currently poor £–$ rate. I would like just one finned/crenulated bezel for my 1C Ledean aspheric M*g. I need to look over the thread to see what developments have been made in your R&D for this bezel so that I can name it for you, or maybe you could repost C Mag options.

Also, do I need to follow this thread for notification of deposit or payment required, or will you start a new sales thread? Or even PM interested buyers? As I say I haven't been following this thread and I would'nt want to mess up your preorder/machining deal. Happy to pay up front if that helps

tx101: You have been removed from MG 010 lens and I still have you down for (2) M.G.A.C.F.S. bezels in polished 303 S.S.; is this correct? Please keep in mind that I am only making the MG style bezels for this initial run. If you intend to use one of these bezels with a KD lens I cannot guaranty how well it will fit until I have one of the bezels made and I can conduct fit testing. The last models I posted showed that a KD may fit okay with the right o-ring.

Once I get the sales thread established payment will start in the form of a 25% down for all bezel orders. For those of you who are ordering an MG 010 or MG 123 lens, I will need full payment on the lenses before I can place the order. Full payment for the bezels will be required when your bezel is ready to ship which I anticipate happening within a couple of weeks after the sales thread has started.



BenjiBot: Good to hear from you and your timing is fine. :thumbsup: I currently have you down for (1) M.G.A.C.F.S. bezel in polished 303 S.S. for $80. All three model bezels should fit both a Mag C & D.

Please continue to track this thread as I will be starting a sales thread probably this weekend and I will be linking it here. Once I get it going I will need members to react quickly with their bezel down payments and lens full payment so I can place the orders for materials and start cutting metal. I am also willing to PM members as needed to ensure no body is left out. 🙁



To All: Since no else has stepped up after repeated requests I finally broke down today and ordered an MG 010
lens in order to get a definitive answer to its fit compatibility. Please don't worry the group lens buy is still on, I just need this lens quickly so I can compare it to my 123. I learned, when placing my order that the 066 A.R. coating now only comes on the flat / LED side of the lens. In the past MG told me that both sides were coated. This may explain why my previous MG asphericals were more expensive. I also 6 ice-blue tritium vials on their way to me courtesy of B@rt. I want to make sure those slots are sized correctly.
