I did a search and can't find anything, perhaps because the standard Apex is so much more common than the Apex Pro (uses CR123A's). Does anyone know if the Apex Pro will work with RCR123's that are the unregulated 3.7V type? It will be getting 1.4V higher than normal, but I'd imagine that the regulator could handle it. I'd like to know if anyone has used 3.7V rechargeables in an Apex before I risk damage. thanks

Yes, I've used it that way and a PT rep has confirmed the Apex will handle the higher voltage. Make sure you use Protected cells as the Apex Pro will overdrain and kill unprotected ones.

The one thing to be aware of is that the protection circuit on the battery will shut the light off with no warning whatsoever. No dimming or anything. Full regulation to the very end.

There is some debate about the protection circuit is meant as an emergency cutoff not a regular use kind of thing. So running it until cutoff may not be really good for the batteries.

Some of the newer cells will actually fire back up for a short period of time, which would give you a bit more runtime on Low if you had been running it on high when it shut down. AW's new high current RCR123's do this, as do the newer red and yellow Battery Station cells.
