The only thing I've heard of is battery life,which would equate to maintaining rated output for a longer time.I've a pulsed pointer,the pulse rate is so fast that from a practical point of view it looks just like a CW pointer.
If you shine a pulsed laser pointer at a wall or ceiling, and then wave it about rapidly, you'll see a dashed line.

The pulse repetition rate is approximately 265Hz and the duty cycle is approximately 66%.
