Putting my flashlights to work

After work the other day I had to go and cover my sailboat for the winter. The boat storage yard has no AC power, so I brought along my LED flashlights.

The Turtlelite II was my primary source of light. I turned it on when I started and didn't turn if off until 4.5 hours later. Ran bright and strong with no weakening despite the 30 degree temps. The bright and broad beam of this light makes it ideal for anything but other than trying to spotlight something far away.

I put the PAL Gold in the boat's cabin, standing on end, and just let it run for about 3 hours. Anytime I needed something from inside, I had more than enough light to find it.

My final source of light was a Photon II in white. It came on at the time when I needed light, but didn't want to move the Turtlelite because it was propped up to shine on a work area.

It was very enjoyable to put my LEDs to practical use. With regular flashlights I would have gone thru a few sets of batteries or would have constantly turned them on and off to conserve charge.

You mean you used your lights for something real and productive rather then having them just sit on your desk to play with?

Who would have thought? *Boggle*

Honestly, I doubt he ever did.
If it weren't for these forums, I'd imagine there would be a lot of us still in the closet, when it comes to owning "too many" LED or other flashlights.
I think I have around 45 flashlights; mostly LED types, and I just got two more today!
If there's one certainty, I'll never have to look very far for a flashlight if I'm thrown into instant darkness. They're all over the house, on my keys, in my lunchpail, hanging by the toilet paper dispenser, on the headboard, you name it. I'm usually within easy reach of at least two at any given time.

Do I actually put them to work?
Sometimes, yes I do. When my wheelchair breaks, I typically reach for a Turtlelite II, when a box needs looking through, I'll slip an AccuLux 2000 in my pocket, or when the phone rings and I can't see the caller ID display, out comes a Photon II.

A popular scientific belief states that "you are never more than three feet away from a spider" but I can easily modify this to say "I am never more than three feet away from a flashlight."

It's funny. Ever since getting into LED flashlights, I look for reasons to use them. My house has more than enough night lights to allow me to get around at night, but that's no fun. So, now I always grab an LED to light the way. Let's face it, we're all just big kids and all kids like to play with flashlights, water, knives, fire, etc.

Thanks for this last post. I let my wife read it. I have 10 flashlights and she thought I needed therapy....actually I probably do, but I can live with it!

And let's not forget - LASERS.

I recently acquired one of those green laser pointers, and I just can't put the silly thing down. I think only my Turtlelite II sees more use than that thing.
