Q3 vs. R4 Neutral

I'm looking to try a neutral light on a budget.... in this situation I'm leaning toward Romisen's from Shiningbeam. They offer both R4 and Q3 varieties but the R4 is a 3D Bin while the Q3 is a 5C bin. From what I can tell from the Cree charts... the R4 is in the 5000K range wile the Q3 would be in the 4000K range. Has anyone used the Romisen neutral white lights and can share some thoughts? The particular models I'm looking at are

[h=1]RC-2R4 II XP-G R4[/h]and

Romisen RC-A4 II NW

At this point I'm actually leaning toward the warmer Q3 but am looking for input and/or beamshots... Thanks!

i have a romisen Q3 model. its the flood to throw model, RC-6C i think its called.
the tint is nice. similar to the XP-E Q3 which used to be commonly used.
my ZL h501w uses the XR-E Q3 3A. and its alittle more rosey than my romisen.

the R4 3_ bins re more cooler. its more of an outdoor white. to me, it looks white white, with maybe a hint of yellow. when compared to cool tints, it still makes cools look bluish.

Thanks for the input Skyfire.... I may go for the Q3 for a closer to incan look than the more neutral R4 but more input would still appreciated! 😀

I've got a R4 Neutral white bin RC-N3, but I don't have a warmer white LED to compare it to. As of right now, I prefer the R4 for the slight edge in output to the warmer white, and better color then cool white LEDs. It seems more proper white to me.

When in doubt, Buy Both! 😛

Thanks for the input gunner.

I know the R4 output would be brighter... I wish there was someone with a beamshot of a 5c tint vs the 3d. They offer a 1xaa light that I might pick up but I'm sure the output is only in the 40-60 OTF but that'd be fine for around the house lighting. This is the one I'm talking about... 1 mode only with a forward clicky RC-G2 with the Q3-5C

The most popular light I know of with an XR-E 5C tint emitter is one of my favorites, the L-Mini II with XR-E Q3 5C.

Find any beamshot of the 5C iteration of the L-Mini II, and you'll find what you are looking for.

if it can help, some shots from a s-mini neutral vs other lights :

as said before, this 3d tint is not a true "neutral"

Depends on what criteria you have, the q3 probably has slightly better throw with a more focused and intense hotspot.

I could try both the emitters in the past and I would go for the Q3 without doubts.

Thanks everyone... I think I'm going to try the Q3 as it is on the warmer side of neutral while the R4 is on the cooler side of neutral.

In theory neutral means you shine it on a white wall and get a white spot, not a blue spot, or a yellow spot.

I think some people confuse warm with neutral?

The neutral in the above screen shots looks pretty neutral to me (for a LED) assuming the wall is white)

I have the Romisen Q3 version, and I like it a lot, yes its more warm than neutral, but I dont mind 1 bit 🙂 (but then I never have been that tint fussy)

I purchased a RV-235 R4, the 3D tint (4750-5000K) is cool neutral-white, it is plenty bright though. Don't care for it, gifted it to a sibling.

I have a 'legacy' RC-N3, xr-e 5C (3750-4000K) warm neutral-white, which isn't that bright (100 emitter lumens or so), but throws well, and has a sumptuous color. and the light blue anodizing was a nice change from black.

Yeah... I was wanting something around 4000K which is right around where the 5C would fall vs. more of a 5000K range for the 3c.
