Quad XR-E Still the king of throw.

Having now seen many beamshots from XR-E / XP-E/ MC-E and XP-G it would seem that the quad XR-E R2 with a cutter 4deg narrow lens is still top dog when it comes to throw. (I've got this in combo with the 14deg)

The only one that seems to come close is the ledil Iris MC-E but I think you would still need 2 of these to trump the 4XR-E for throw.

Does anyone disagree?

Marco.

I'm going to send a * degree 7*XP-G R5 to a skilled builder soon. That'll be really something...

I have to agree, I want to build something with XPGs but find the throw of both Cutter narrow quad & triple optics great with my set up - I'm just waiting for my new ballast to arrive for my uprated HID helmet light, if its as good as I hope, I might shelve the XPG plan!

Its a very nice beam. Im surprised(annoyed) there hasn't been a smaller XP-E quad that rivals it.

There are slightly better XP-E optics out there for throw, Ledil do a single +/-3 deg optic for XP-E and Polymer Optics have a 2.5 deg. But for a quad they are larger than the MR11.

And of course you can always go aspheric

It might just take some time for the optics to filter down into the market.

It would be interesting to see what would happen if you mounted 4 XP-G's in the same position (direct to aluminium) as the 4 up cutter narrow and put that optic on the front. It may involve removing some of the back cone with a mill so the LED sits further into the recess.

Yes agree the quad cute narrow is still the benchmark beam

but I think a quad XPG with the 10 mm narrow lens fronted carlo will be close , a bit wider but with the extra power will make up for it .

I have a quad R2 and am building a quad XPG with that choice of optic so will try and do a comparison soon .
