Question on Modding Mag Head

Hey guys, I would like to use my mill to make plunged "grooves" on a mag head that would end up going from the threaded part of the head towards the back of the head (tear drop shapes) where the barrel threads in. My question is, what is the longest, widest cut I can take without going through and messing the head up? What size mill to use? I have a DRO so I can do pretty precise moving of the milling table.

I can't give you a size, but consider what the grooves will look like in the head. How many grooves around the head. The Maglite head is pretty thick. You could start with a smaller end mill and go bigger if you don't like the look.
