Hi,

Just got my first li-ion charger (WF-139) and have a few quick questions. They may have been answered in the past, but old posts, and new posts sorta say different things.

When monitoring voltage when charging, should i take the battery out to test on multimeter, or is it okay to just put the probes top and bottom while still being charged?

Actually, only one question at the moment, but I am charging up my first cells now, so will no doubt ask more questions soon.

BTW, I really like the look of AW 18650 protected cells, any problems shipping them overseas? extra costs etc?

I'm still trying to figure out if I'm going to set my house on fire for leaving them on the charger for a whole day.

If I've got to monitor them to pull them off at a certain time I'm going to go nuts when I get all of these re-chargeables.

I'm just charging them at work, at my feet, so I can reach down and touch them every now and then... hopefully won't be charging them every day. Will find a place out in the workshop for when i am out there... less things to catch fire when they inevitably explode

Hello Tolkaze,

You monitor the voltage of the cell while it is charging. You expect the voltage to never exceed 4.2 volts.

After the cell is charged, let is rest for 30 minutes, then you can measure the open circuit voltage. As your cell ages, this voltage will drop. If it is 4.2 volts, the cell is in very good condition. When it drops below 4.0 volts, it is time to recycle the cell.

Thankyou for your input, The cells I have finished charging a little over 4.2 volts on one multimeter, and just on 4.2 volts on a second multimeter. Cells never got warm, charger probably made it to about 40 - 45 degrees (from touch... warm, but nowhere near hot)

Cells settled to 4.15 and 4.16 volts
