I just got the Lumapower M3 with the "turboforce head" w/ smooth reflector from Batteryjunction. It was only after I saw some beamshots and pictures of the turboforce head, (thanks everyone) that I became interested in the light.
I love the beam of my D-mini, but with only 30 minutes of runtime with a AW cell, it has limited hiking potential. I wanted the same beam, but with hours of runtime. With 2 lithium AA's, The M3 should provide that.
The light is not as bright as the D-mini
That has been its #1 complaint that I have read here. But I knew that when I ordered it. It is WAY brighter than the MMagLed and even slightly brighter (+/- 10%) than my 2007 Inova T3 with its 5+ watt K2 led running on 3 CR123A's.
Here are some quick beamshots I took. The camera was 15' from the wall, and the lights were 8 ' from the wall and 5' to the right. That should explain why the sidespill might look a little oval. I just did not want any lightbounce back to the lens, so I tried this. I was using a 50mm lens at f/2.0 . Shutter was set to 1 second. (Iso 400)
Here is a shot with the room lit:
First the D-mini w/ AW 3.7v rcr123a:
The LP M3 on 2x e2 lithium AA's with Turboforce head and smooth reflector
on High:
Her is a close up picture of about 3' with the M3 and T3 next to each other. The M3 has a brigher sidespill than the T3. The spot is brighter, but should be with the smooth reflector.
So I think the M3 with the turbo head is a great light. I like a much more with the turbohead than without. Having the bigger reflector does a much better job of focusing the beam. So those of you who love your D-mini, but need a little longer runtime, this light is not a bad choice. + you have all the other configurations and 2 lower levels to choose if you need 20----??? hours of runtime.
Thanks for taking the time to look at the pictures
