Hi all, does anyone know when the R bins are coming out and which light will it be in? I am thinking of getting a Tiablo A9 Q5...should I wait? Thanks!

My brother in law works for Sureifre. The R bin will be in the L5 Heads within a month.

just kidding.:sick2:

Yeah, me too.

I just ordered an A9 last night, and I felt sick until I also scrolled down.

However, I cannot complain. Most of my pranks are pretty mean also.

Good one brother, good one.

OK, since nobody's answered your question. Here's the deal... by the time you wait for a new light to have and R-bin Cree, people will be already drooling for the S-bins. It's a never-ending lust for the next brightest bin.

My suggestion is: get the light you *need* right now. You can always upgrade to something you *want* later. You may also find that by the time the new bins roll in the increase in brightness may not worthwhile your investment. At least that's been my experience.

I only upgrade lights in "quantum leaps": from a Lux I to a Seoul P4, for example. Smaller increments in brightness don't interest me much.

But what do I know...

I've heard first quarter of 2008 for R-bins, but who knows. Tomorrow someone may post that CREE has announced they have a large enough supply of R-Bins to begin selling them, etc. I think they were early with the Q5 bins to everyone's surprise.

as greenLED stated, the difference from the Q5 to an R2 or R3 will barely be noticable, it really is a very small increment in visual brightness.

from what i've read the Tiablo's Q5 have really nice white tint so might as well get one if you want one.:)

From Q5 to R? Not even worth thinking about. I can barely see a difference from P4 to Q4 ... so, just like Green ... the next BIG leap will interest me, but untill S or T bin, that is likely not the case.

But it sure is fun to watch the "Bin of the Day Game" ... :nana:

The change in tint is more noticeable than minor changes in brightness.
P3 WC => P4 WD cool white to yellow, the extra brightness of the P4 is not noticeable unless doing direct A-B testing. Both running in L0D-CE. Replacing the P3 with a Q5 will maybe give me 25% more light. Dropping a 10440 in the back (NOT RECOMMENDED) will double the light output!

Like Green & Kiessling I do not think it is worth to upgrade minor bin changes. Not to mention the new LED costs an arm and a leg!

I am going the other way going for longer runtime at the expense of brightness. My order for MillerMods Arc AAA Cree is 50mA low (for 3+ hours, actually measured at 4 hours by one of the lucky few who got one) and 3/4 watt high (for 45+ mins).

I saw a difference from P4 to Q2, and even more difference from P4 to Q5. Chevrofreak estimated the Fenix P3D on Turbo at around 130 lumens, and with the Q5 around 180 lumens, about a 35% increase. That's a pretty good difference, especially if you are going for throw. Blasting something at 10 feet with 130 lumens or 200 lumens would be fairly pointless and you may not notice much of a difference, but at longer ranges the gain in out put will be more noticeable. Not to mention it helps on the LOW modes by giving you more light at the same current, or the same light with less current, etc.

How about P4 to R bin?

Is that more noticeable? Wondering what point it is worth upgrading...
Yes, that'd be a more noticeable difference (but that also depends on individual perceptions).

Whether that difference makes an upgrade worthy is up to each person to decide, though. For example, I recently swapped a Q-bin Lux for a P4 Seoul emitter. Sure, the Seoul is (twice?) brighter, but not enough for me to drool in awe. I think I'm happier with the increased efficiency and runtime than I am with the increase in brightness per se.

I can understand why other people would prefer to swap emitters as soon as new bins are available. I used to do that too, but I jumped off the "get'em while they're brightest" bandwagon some time ago. I'm more than happy with the lights I have, so it will be a while before I decide to "upgrade" to the latest, coolest, and brightest.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to get me some  until the U-bin Crees are out. :p

For me it doesn't matter if I can actually see the difference. I put it in a lightbox before and after and can see I've gained lumens, it makes me feel better. Same way with my hotrod, if I add a mod that gains me 20hp I most likely won't feel it in normal driving, but at the track I'll see a gain in my times. For me it's about knowing the performance is there.

I just did the mod: took the brightest of my Q5 's and putted in my LOD-CE
result: barely/not noticeable (probably because of the higher fV). The story with the R line will be the probably the same
