Hey guys one of my favorite hobbies is taking my dogs out and chasing down rabbits. I have a M6 guardian and a Night Rider HID headlamp but I want something with some serious throw so I can "stun" the rabbits. The M6 is great but you cant adjust the beam and it has decent throw but floods out. I want a super throw flashlight with minimal flood, is there such an animal out there? Thanks for the help.

Malkoff 3D Mag with an optic...no, really.

I spot feral cats in my backyard with one all the time. My dog actually perks up when I grab the Malkoff, lol...

I have stunned rabbits using the strobe on a Gladius, but I didn't try to catch them.

Thanks for the replies guys, but are there any specific flashlights that are built just for throw and no flood? Like I said I guess I kind of want a 'laser' like flashlight. Super concentrated focal beam.

JIL Lite EZNITE. Same lamp and ballast as your Mini-HID, but with the ability to collimate the hotspot for superior throw. Can be overdriven with 3xRCR123 for greater output. An aspheric Maglite should fit the bill nicely as well.

Aspheric mag. There's a kit here to retrofit a stock mag. Zero spill, great throw, instant startup, unlike HID.

I hope you eat the rabbit, I don't see a lot of sense in killing an animal you dont eat, and no the dog eating it does not count.

And this comes from someone who has hunted both archery and gun seasons for the past 35 years, just dont see the sense in senseless killing for fun, certainly not for a hobby.

All of the lights mentioned except the Maxabeam are going to have a fair amount of spill. The only way around that is with a super thrower LED like the Tiablo, DBS or aspheric mag, but those all fall short of the lumens you're looking for. The M6 is a great light and very bright so your next step would be a hot-wire like a mag85 or even HID, like some others have already suggested.

An aspheric mag should outthrow an M6 by a good bit, and without spill.

M6 provides instant-on capability, I'm not sure whether HIDs still retain their "starting up burn" where the power output will not hit the full power until the gases heat up.:ohgeez:

if you want to shine in on anything that moves, that few seconds of startup time the wabbit may have already bolted

No worries about that.. it's all in the thrill of chasing them. The dogs arent fast enough to catch them but the love trying. Plus they are pretty small at 8 and 11lbs lol. So they arent much bigger than the rabbits but we love to chase them. I don't even think they'd know what to do if they do chase one.

Make sure your dogs are vaccinated against leptospirosis in case they ever actually catch one...
