Is the general statement that the same torch will light up shorter but brighter with RCR123 and longer but less bright with CR123 valid? Let's say AW's RCR123 and Panasonic CR123. Or this is too generalized of a statement and it really depends on the light?

Depends on the light. If the light has a buck/boost circuit, the output will be the same. The runtime however will be shorter with RCR's because they are less mAh than primaries. Your statement would be more accurate with a light that uses direct drive provided the light can handle the higher voltage of RCR's.

It also depends on the type of RCR123s. The 3.7V RCR123s will be brighter than the 3.0V RCR123s in a direct drive light.

Ok, I'll have to run some experiments, then. I just joined this forum about a month ago, and I already have a bunch of lights and batteries (cause I want them ALL). And I'm wondering what if I put this battery in that light, etc. I'm trying to make a chart of what runtimes and outputs each of my lights have with what batteries. There is some good information here, but not for everything and it's hard to locate it all.

Thanks to all that replied. I will start putting the lights to the test. I am considering buying a light sphere now, but from what I've read they're pretty expensive. Going to google...
