REACTOR III

Kinda looks like they are saying the head is poly and the barrel is al. Does that sound right?

Same material as the original reactor...only noticeable difference here in appearance is the reactor 3 is painted(?) gray. Can anyone picture this in a red?

That image is a CAD rendering, not a photo. It could be any colour, but my guess is black like the original Reactors - it saves them from having to have two different colours of head mouldings made (and a different anodize), which is a fairly significant expense.

As we all know, no flashlight manufacturer or seller would ever give descriptions or make claims that were'nt 100% true but from their ad..."Constructed of anodized aircraft aluminum and polycarbonate. Color: black. "

The package on the CMG reactor R1, says ''True white light'' I sent them an email, because they are so proud of their true white color its listed on the front, and there is also a beam shot comparison of R1 vs Normal bluish light from standard LEDs. I do realize the quality of the LS's are not their responsibility, but the packaging is.

Brightnorm. Shomer-tec has been around a long time. They are used by some PD's and I have used them twice without any problems.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">Have their big catalog, and find that they sell some interesting stuff that you won't find elsewhere, -except some things and techniques suggested in the Palladin Books.

Do you think they use a step down resistor? 4.5V thru a Luxeon? Wouldn't it smoke it?
<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">Probably..unless they've selected out some pretty high fV Luxeons.

A typical Luxeon has a forward voltage of 3.42 Volts. My guess is that its easier to put a resistor on 3 cells to drop the voltage to acceptable levels, or they would be overvolting and reducing the life by half. Another thought is its easier (cheaper) to obtain 3 alkalines and step down than 2 Lithiums and run to specs (2 lithiums put out 3.4-3.6 volts)

I spoke with the people at CMG Equipment last week. The CMG Reactor III will not be available until the of end of 2002 or beginning of 2003. The main difference between the Reactor and the Reactor III is that the Reactor III holds three AA batteries instead of two. Therefore, it should be significantly brighter than the Reactor.
