Rebatt/Golden power AA alkalines..... any good?

I just bought some of these batteries.

I figure they are probably a great buy in 10 packs for 1.00 plus tax so I bought 3 packs of them. The pack was dated 2006.

Title changed to reflect origin of *bargain* cells due to others being found under same brand/price/packaging.

Did they come in a yellow package labeled 'POWR' by a company named REBATT? If so they are ok. The ones I have test good using a simple 3 LED tester,I also bought a few packs(with the same packaging) containing Fujitsu batteries,they all have different exp dates on each one(most 2004 /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif for the fujitsu batts).What I have concluded is that this company repacks batteries that are removed from disposable cameras but I could be wrong. Overall they seem to be ok for the price,work just fine in my Mag 2AA lights.

Yes, that is the packaging for them, I haven't even opened them up yet and I went back to the store I got them from and there weren't any more left. Since I have a dozen nimh in my most used lights I figure these will be put in my least used stuff and should be fine. I pulled 3 of them out of a toy I found that had been sitting at least 4 years and they tested about 1.4 volts, I didn't put a load on them, but I have found alkalines above 1.3 volts are usually good batteries.

I wish I could find AAAs at this same price, I have a few clocks and remote controls that can use them. I went to rebatt.com and looked around some, if someone needs a lot of cheap generic alkalines their prices are pretty good.

i wound up with a bunch of rebat stuff.
they are a good deal if you dont mind the fact they are reclaimed from disposable stuff.
i had some products i was selling at hamfests and these were great for loading the items so they are ready to use.
i cant seem to find them here anymore.
i got a big load of them at turtle creek flea mkt in monroe oh.

I think the dollar store near me must get stuff from rebatt because I went to the rebatt.com site and they have kodak batteries just like the ones sold there in the store. I am stocked up with cheap AA alkaline now just keeping my eyes out for AAAs and C and D alkalines for cheap also a few 9V alkalines.

I just visited the rebatt site and I'm not sure if you noticed but the have AAAs,50 for $10 I could not find any shipping info so I'm not sure if that would offset the value.

I can buy 4AAA kodak generics for 1.00 or 40 for 10.00 plus tax here at a dollar store probably the same batteries but I dont need that many batteries, probably 8 would do me for awhile I only use them for clocks and remote controls

I wonder exactly how much it costs to make the name brand batteries seems like they are not figuring out how to make them cheaper, instead they talk about longer runtime and the prices keep spiraling up while they pawn off their heavy duty batteries on the cheap to satisfy the folks that don't like paying 50 cents a cell for AAs.

Most likely it costs the same as the "lesser" brands(I would guess less than $.10/cell),but the big guys have to pay for there ad campains and line there pockets at the same time.
From What I have read,the compositon and manufacture of standard alkalines has matured to the point where the differences among them are small and almost un-noticed from one brand to the next(If the cells are the same age.),alot of cells are made in the same factory and just have different sleeves on them.

If the brands were more than just hype I wouldn't mind the ad campaigns, seems everything else electronic is going down in price as technology improves except batteries sold in stores.
I wouldn't say outright there is price fixing but I also wouldn't bet there wasn't either.

Update: I went back and got some more POWR/Rebatt 10 packs
this time it is rayovac maximum alkaline AAs. I couldn't resist getting 2 packs of them even though I still have 20 of the golden power ones unopened. Guess I put them in stuff at christmas and give them away. They also had rebatt kendall? brand cells there also... never heard of that brand.

I just completed a comparison of several Alkaline batteries and beg to differ with you.

At a constant 0.5 Amp load, the Energizer Industrial AA's lasted for 132.0 minutes where the Duracell Ultra AA's went for 236.8 minutes. Check here for details.

That is not a small difference, in my book.

Sorry Lynx Arc, I can't seem to find any Golden Power AA's to test.

That's Ok SilverFox, I was just curious and I got enough information about them through this thread. The Golden power cells are somewhat obscure and no longer can I find them where I got them they have been replaced by rayovac and kendall brands in the dollar store.

I notice you haven't done a test on the Energizer E2 alkalines, I believe these are the ones competing against the duracell Ultras and may more closely match the higher test ratings it got.

I would send you some of these cells but since they are really not available anywhere in *new* condition, original package I don't think it would be but a waste of postage.

I may do some simple tests on them around christmas time just to see if all of them are good or not. They will probably go in non essential stuff and be given to people to put in portable CD players etc.

I guess I will have to try a couple of e2's. I just checked the Energizer web site and they are supposed to have more capacity. Next time I am in the store, I'll pick some up.
