Ive got a 6P and Ive been muddling over whether or not to bother with the rechargeable conversion kit. Has anyone ever used it? Id be interested in knowing how it affects burn time and brightness.

I've been carrying a 6R (6P + conversion kit) for about a year and I love it. Burntime is about 45 minutes continuous, but longer if you don't run it constantly. The heat is partially what burns the batteries up so quick. The NiCads are slightly dimmer than the Lithiums, but they still do a great job. The P61 will run for bout 15-18 minutes continuous with NiCads. It's worth the money to have the NiCads because they really do save the wallet.

Thanks for the input emerald

I have to add my two cents. The light is great with the p61 bulb. It is very bright and even though it's only 15 minutes, it's plenty for most high light jobs. The rechargable point makes it an easy choice for daily use. I've had one for 10 years and if I lost it, I'd get another.

The runtime with the old r60 bulb is an hour and that is a good option too.

If you want a good rechargable that is really bright, consider the Ultrastinger.
I'm impressed that it really does last a full hour at a really bright level.

The conversion kit is $55.00 at AGR and comes with one NiCad Battery. NiCad batteries are about $8.50 a piece at AGR.

I hate to be a Negative Nancy, but...

My first SureFire was the 6R. I hated it so much I converted it to a 9P.

I purchased the 6R for police patrol. My problem with it was twofold: 1) the batteries would not reliably hold a charge, and 2) there was no prior warning that the battery was about to die -- it just went from white light to dim to out, that fast.

Because I liked the length of the 6R, which is longer than the 6P, I decided to order the A19 adapter (6P to 9P) to replace the 6R's A14 Adapter (6P to 6R). (The 6R is slightly longer than the 9P.) Because I wanted lamp commonality between my Remington 870 shotgun WeaponLight (SureFire model 618) and my flashlight, I installed a Z20 battery spacer in my 9P so I can use P60 lamps in both. I also replaced the 6R flashlight bezel with the Z32 shock isolated bezel (in case I dropped the light I didn't want the lamp to break). Lastly I installed a Z41 waterproof lockout tail cap switch (because it rains a lot here in Washington).

I'm very happy with my "new" 9P flashlight, much a happier than I was with the 6R.

If you had the old style trickle charger, that would have been a large part of the problem. The conversion kits they are selling now only come with the rapid charger. I too had used a 9P at one time, but lithium batteries are just too expensive for me to use since I spend half of my time, especially this time of year, working in the dark. I have my 6R with two spare batteries and I just check the beam periodically and if it seems a bit dim, I change batteries and throw one in the charger. I've carried my 6R for roughly a year and I love it.

I have the original style charger with two battery end cap plugs that connect directly to the battery terminals.

I reckon they've probably improved the charger technology. Sounds like things have gotten better.
