I have a 4 D battery maglite that I just purchased a terralux LED conversion for. I tend to use the maglite fairly often and was looking for suggestions for rechargeable D batteries and a charger to charge them. Any suggestions?

I am looking to make a one time purchase of these batteries. A $5 or $10 dollar difference over my lifetime doesn't seem too great. Can recommend a charger for these batteries?

Thanks

I just spoke to a saleman at batteryjunction.com about chargers. My concern was that I needed a charger that would completely charge a 12000mAh D battery. He suggested two chargers that would initially charge to 9000 - 10000 mAh and then shut down. To get the charge up to 12000 mAh, he said to unplug the charger (which I suppose resets it), plug it back in again and it would then charge the same batteries to the max. Does that sound legitimate?

You may want to consider the Maha MH-C808M charger. It gives you the option to charge at either a 1000 mA or a 2000 mA rate. It also has a function to condition the batteries. I have the smaller version of the charger that only charges AA and AAA batteries and I am very impressed with it.

You may also want to consider the Accupower Evolution 10,000 mAH Low self Discharge (LSD) batteries as well.

I think most experts here would agree, that if you want the BEST NIMH D cells for most applications, including an LED converted mag, it is probably these:

The MAHA 808 mentioned is also one of the best chargers you could go with for this type of applications.

The Titanium D cells are probably not too bad either, and battery junction just started carrying a new >>charger<< that looks really nice, ideal for D size cells as it has one of the faster charge rates available on these types of multi-bay chargers. I haven't seen any test results but on paper it looks great.

the rates given there for D cell recharging are reasonable, but also only imply 2A, which is what the C808 would give; but the c808 has more bays. I think it depends what you want...

personally, I'm disappointed that they don't put more current through. I'd like to see a 3A+ charger; as it is, I can charge a set of 4 AAs with my Ansmann Digispeed plus in around an hour. 3 hours for 2700maH x 12....

There don't seem to be any pack chargers capable of putting serious current through, either :(

You're looking in the wrong places, check out the RC oriented hobby chargers. Many of them can do 5-10+ amps. I've got a little one that can do up to 6.5A for 4-8 cell packs.

What we need to do, is take the guts from a 15 minute energizer charger, and stuff em into a 4 slot charger that holds D cells... it charges at about 10 amps :)

aaaahhhhhhhh :)

so, a holder like the voltcraft one that was being modded? And then one of these - but even that would take three hours for a 10kmAh.

My digiplus also has an (irritating) fan to keep the cells cool whilst they're being charged. That thing must also push 4A+; thinking about it, there's an offer on at the moment at partco.fi for a Sanyo quick charger @€10 or so. That should also push 5Ah out...

Or the op could get an Accumanger 20 and be done with it. I think that model does not have a timer. Plus it fills the cells up quite well .but it does not have a discharge function though.

or a 30 minute charger would work like energizers' ch30mn. it charges at 4 amps
