please could you guys recommend a rechargable D and C cell battery and a charger to go with them.

In my furay into flash light my wife has become interested in led flicker candles and we now have a tree in the garden full of laterns and led candles.... they take a mix of D cell and C cell batteries, so I'm looking for a good rechargable which is a true D/C cell rather than an AA in a fat tube.

What would you guys recommend ??

Thanks,

They are not cheap. Tenergy , Tenergy Centura ( L.S.D. version ) and Imedion ( also L.S.D. )come first to mind.
Cost at least $7.00 U.S. each for D cells and $5.00 for C cells.

I think maha makes a decent C/D charger not sure of the model you could search the forum for it. As for batteries they vary on capacity and price and on nimh there are LSD and non LSD varieties if you are using them often and recharging them at least once a month the normal nimh may be cheaper and work just fine. If it were only D cells you could consider investion in 2AA to D adapters and use AAs for about half the capacity of D cells but you would have to have acceptable runtime in that effort for the hassle.

There's also the AccuPower/AccuEvolution C & D low self discharge cells - I've got several of each and I think they're pretty reasonable.

I'd also second the recommendation for the Maha charger - the one that you want is the Maha/Powerex C808M.

Tenergy makes a solid product. Pretty cheap. I have used them in the kid's toys and in my roomba (thats some heavy useage there). Lots of cheaper options I am sure, lots of better options too. but its a safe option.

Buy fresh new ones though. I bought through an Ebay discounter (mentioned in another thread here)
some of the older, discontinued Tenergy D and AAs (light blue wrapper, lower case "e")
None of those I got charged to their rated capacity, and after a few months and a few cycles, several are dead, the rest come back to 60 percent on a ZTS tester.
Not worth saving money that way.

According to this thread the Accuevolution cells are not very good any more. The probably changed the cell under the wrapper.

The C808M charger is great (I own one myself).

I would say for the money nothing beats Tenergy Centuras/Premiums.

With the single important caution to use it on a UPS if you're using the lower setting, because it defaults to the higher charge rate after the power flickers.
That's from memory, someone mentioned it here somewhere and I asked Maha and they told me yes, it does reset each time powered off and back on to high rate.
That's not always what you want.

But no worry -- who doesn't have a UPS these days?

EDIT -- checking, they're out of stock at Newegg; the description there says
" The 7th generation Powerex microprocessor features a 0.001V resolution delivering just the right charge!"

Dunno if there's a way to identify the processor.
Perhaps there's a new model on the way?

You only need the UPS if you live in an area where the power fluctuates a lot and you are doing very long charging/conditioning cycles all the time. Here in Germany I have never had this problem.
