Looking for an 18650 EDC light that can also be mounted to my .308 Win (7.62x51 NATO) rifle as needed.

==================Flashlight Recommendation Checklist================

1) How would you prefer to purchase the light?

This will be mail-order or Online (location doesn't matter).

2) Budget

Up to $100 preferably, but can go up to $150.

3) Format:

I want a flashlight (hand held/self contained).

4) Size:

4-6 inches - Every day carry.

5) Emitter/Light source:

Neutral White LED - CREE XP-L most preferable

6) Manufacturer:

I want to buy a light from a good quality manufacturer that is ready to go out of the box.

7) What power source do you want to use?

Orbtronic 10A 3500mAh dual-protection 18650 Diameter (mm): 18.6 mm (+/- 0.03) Height (mm): 68.9 mm (+/- 0.03)

8) How much genuine out the front (OTF) light do you want/need?

I want search and rescue type illumination (800+ lumens) preferably without automatic stepdown.

9) Flood vs Throw: Flood covers an area, Throw reaches out to a distance.

Narrow Flood: I want a sharply defined flood area that will project some distance for tasks like trail walking.
Wide Throw: I want a beam with a noticeable hot-center for distance throw and a significant amount of "side-spill". Good for rough trail hiking, search and rescue, and general distance work.

9a) Distance: How far away will you typically need to see with this light (check all that apply)

5 to 100+ yards typically, but up to 200 yards (not a deal breaker) useful in some situations.

10) Runtime: Not over-inflated manufacturer runtime claims, but usable brightness measured from first activation to 50% with new batteries (Measured on maximum continuous output).

As long as possible from a quality 3500mAh battery...

11) Durability/Usage: Generally the old phrase "you get what you pay for" is very accurate for flashlights.

Very Important (Camping, Backpacking, Car Glove-box).
Critical (Police, Fire, Search & Rescue, Caving, Survival).

12) Switch Size, Type, and location (choose all that apply):

I want a tail mounted switch

13) User Interface (UI) and mode selection. Select all that apply.

I want 4 or more non-blinking light levels
I want a strobe mode.
I want a beacon mode. Regular flashes at full and/or reduced power to show location - flash rate somewhere between 2 & 5 seconds per flash preferable
I would like SOS mode. (blinks in . . . - - - . . . emergency pattern - preferably at max power)

14)Material/Finish/Coating

Anodized Aluminum – either type II or III HA
Stainless steel (durable, but much heavier than aluminum)
Color doesn't matter, I will Cerakote the flashlight at some point down the road to match the rifle.

15) Water resistance

IPX7 or better

16) Storage conditions

Daily use stored in house, but may also find itself in a backpack, glove box, or weapon mounted from time to time for up to a week at a time.

17) Special Needs/extras: Is there anything else you want or need that hasn't been mentioned? Select any/all below.

0.80" - 1.00" (20mm - 25.4mm) body diameter for weapon mount.
maximum empty weight 4.25 ounces.
maximum head diameter 40mm
NO PROPRIETARY BATTERY.

No Beacon or SOS on the Klarus lights, but the SC63 looks interesting, though it only supports unprotected 18650's :(

Kind of also looking at ThruNite TN12 (2016) XP-L v6 Max, EagleTac DX30LC2, and EagleTac T25C2:
No beacon or SOS on the TN12 but great price & 0.4 lumen firefly is nice.
Faster beacon mode (1.67Hz) than I would like on the DX30LC2 & hard to find available in NW version.
T25C2 looks pretty good with t
wo of each SOS, Beacon, & Strobe modes, definitely at the pricier end of the spectrum, but heavier than I would like @ 4.6oz, & twisty mode operation while weapon mounted might be a challenge.

So still looking for more options.

If you want a weapons light an unprotected cell is a better option as it is on less thing to get knocked around when the recoil hits. A protection circuit can and will go wrong compared to the potted built in protection provided by the zebralight.

I THINK I might have found my light... Nitecore P14GT Signature Edition $72 shipped
1" body & head diameter
3.2 ounces
5.51" long
320 meter distance (pretty good throw & I can use a diffuser for flood)
1 / 55 / 280 / 1000 Lumen
Cree XP-L HI V3 LED (I think it's cool white but I can live with it)
Beacon, Strobe, & SOS Modes
Tailcap On/Off, Side Selector Switches

Armytek Partner pro C2 Warm seems like a good choice, you can also get a pressure switch for it when mounting it on your rifle.

I think the Eagletac DX30LC2 is a better choice it has a bit farther throw in real use but not on spec sheets. The Armytek is actually designed for weapon mounting though.

Armytek seems more like what I'm looking for, but not the Partner Pro, I like the Dobermann Pro in white much better, especially if I cannot have beacon or SOS modes :( but it does have lowest low output at 0.2 lumen :)

DX30LC2 has a quite fast beacon mode at less than a second between flashes which I don't like (and is the only reason that it wasn't at top of my list in front of the P14GT), where all of the Nitecore's I've tried with a beacon mode are between 2 & 3 seconds between flashes which I do like, but doesn't necessarily mean the P14GT will be around the same flash rate....

Illumination range wise, they're all past my extended use range of 200 yards so that's a non-issue.

So my top 3 in order right now - will actually purchase in about 4 weeks

1> ArmyTek Dobermann PRO - 1100 ANSI OTF lumens, 450m, IP68 50m submersion / 30m drop, 50,600 cd, 4.05 oz, no beacon or SOS modes, $80+ shipping also has built in over discharge protection which even supports LiFePO4 cells
2> Nitecore P12GT - 1000 lumens, 320m, IPX8, 25,700 cd, 3.21 oz unknown color temp, $71.95 shipped (P14GT Signature seems to be the exact same flashlight as the P12GT)
3> EagleTac DX30LC2-R - 905 ANSI OTF lumens, 288m, IPX8, 20,800 lux, 2.1 oz, very fast beacon, very limited availability in Neutral White $74.90 shipped

Understood, the only thing with the Dobermann is the size of the head, it won't be very comfortable in a pocket for EDC. Which is why I recommended the Partner Pro. Plus I like the Warm tint better, everything shows their true color.

I don't pocket carry, I use a flashlight holster, I also have a Nitecore SRT7 which has a 40mm head & it's pretty nice & the head size doesn't bother me, but the weight sure does.... 6.1 ounces without battery :( @ 2 ounces lighter & 34mm head diameter the Dobermann seems like a pretty good upgrade even with giving up the magnetic ring control.

As for tint, to each their own, for LED lighting I prefer 4600K - 5400K range & dislike anything more yellow or more green/blue.

And then Zebralight goes & announces this beastie.... SC600Fd Mk III Plus XHP50 Floody Neutral White (5000K) 93 - 95 CRI, and should be available right around the time I have the $$$ to purchase

But I see no mention yet of range & only compatible with flat top unprotected 18650's... Both of my high capacity unprotected cells (Orbtronic 3500mAh) are button top which means new batteries as well in order to use it :( Still if those CRI numbers & stated OTF lumens are accurate, so worth it.

Hm :sigh: I've been reading on some of the shooting boards & they say Zebralight is fine for small caliber weapons, but a poor choice for anything with a decent amount of recoil like a large magnum caliber handgun, or my .308 AR10 build. So, looks like the Dobermann Pro is back at the top of my list.

Well, since no more viable options came up, I ordered the Dobermann Pro in White & should be here in just a few days.

I like that the DP is almost an inch shorter and just over 2 ounces lighter than my SRT7, and I got it with express shipping for $75.

I might still get that Zebralight later on for EDC but first review I saw makes it look like it has an undesirable tint... will have to wait for a few more reviews of it.
