Howdy cpf,

I have a friend that wants me to set him up with a light and multitool combo. He works in construction, and will carry the light in a leather holster on his belt. I'm getting him a leatherman surge, so I think something 21700 based would be good.

The preferred specs

single 21700 cell
Built in charging would keep it simple for him
4500-5000 k tint
Floody throw like the d4v2
Body of the light 1.1 inch or less wide

note: he has a massive phone with a 1200 lm cob on the back of it. Because of this, I think something very floody is unneccesary.

The d4v2 or similar would be nice, but there is mo onboard charging.

The thrunite tt20 is decent, but has a very cool emmiter, and a proprietory battery.

What are your suggestions?

Thank you in advance,
Mark

A Skilhunt M300 is a nice 21700 light. Heaps of power, your preference of temp and onboard charging. Thrunite T3 is another good one, nice ramping UI and plenty of throw, but cool temp and not a lot of flood.

If USB-chargeable batteries count as "onboard charging", you open yourself up to quite a few options.

Given "construction" and "floody throw", I'd be taking a hard look at the Malkoff MD2 and variations thereupon. My personal choice to pair with a multitool in a belt holster would be an MD2 with the high/low ring and an M61N or M61NL, plus a USB-charging battery. Sticking with the 18650 tube lets you use primary cells as an option.

If you want to step up to the 21700 tube, that's an option but you'll need to assemble the unit yourself from the parts.

Thanks for the input!

I think for simplicity, I'll get him a Thrunite T3 and find a warmer emitter for it.

I'd love to hear other suggestions if you have them.
