Was wondering what other 2AA's you guys would suggest, as opposed to the mini-maglite, sich seem to be the popular norm (among the uninformed public who are not part of this forum ;^)
Let's use the mini as a basis for comparison,
points to be enlightened upon are construction, operation, brightness, beam, durability, and price.

The performance of the 4 AA lights is much better than any of the 2 AA's. Have you considered the 4 AA units from Pelican, Princeton Tec, Underwater Kinetics, or Streamlight? These are all great lights.
If you really want to stick with 2 AA, a Princeton Tec Tec 20, a Bison or Pelican MityLight Magnum would be good choices. The bulbs for the PT are the cheapest and easiest to get. A Mini-Mag with the Brinkmann NexStar Xenon bulb is decent, too. The Xenon bulb makes a big difference.

Go to: http://www.thebrinkmanncorp.com/acb/showdetl.cfm?&DID=8&User_ID=257593&st=6306&st2=-75796185&st3=-43076477&Product_ID=511&CATID=2

(The link to flashlight parts is a bit hard to find; it's in the upper right hand corner of the main flashlights page).

You want the replacement lamps for the 2AA NexStar flashlight. They are identical in size to the Mini Maglite lamps (and similar)
bipin lamps.

They are *much* whiter and brighter than the 'standard' Mini Maglite 2AA lamp; approx. twice as bright. I've been using them in every flashlight that will take them, including the 2AAA Mini Maglite, where they really make a big difference. cost is $4.95/2, BUT shipping is included(!) They are worth the exra trouble and expense, IMHO.

Do these bulbs affect power consumption? And what other units will they work in?

Close up work, in dark rooms, in a vehicle at night, and for "chores around the house or when I'm working/cleaning my guns. I use the mini-mag since I also have the fiber optic attachment that allows to look inside the nooks and crannys. Don't use it for the bore though, it will make even questionable bore look sparkling clean, and can hide pitting due to the way it reflects the light.
Not to get off topic, but for those who are interested, use a small piece of white paper held near the breech to help reflect light properly into the barrel, look in muzzle end, then vice-versa.

@webley

the Mag 2AA bulbs takes 300ma - the Nexstar 450ma - this and more has been discussed at length in earlier topics you could find using the search function

BTW - the 2AA Nexstar bulbs are definetely HIGHLY recommended to tune up any bi-pin 2AA

Regards

Klaus

Webley-

I would recomend an LED light for your needs. I'm not sure what a good 2AA LED would be. It sounds like you need soft, even light, perfect for LEDs.
