I currently ware a CMG Infinity around my neck for general use at work and would love the same basic form factor with a RED LED. I would prefer a AA format, I know either searching for a Arc or CMG/Gerber but figured there would be something newer out there I'm not aware of.

I currently have a Peak Eiger with a red Rebel, medium optic and level 1 output and I personally feel for my uses, it's too bright. How exactly do you plan on using this light?

Fairly general use, there are times when the single 5mm white is too much and while we have red domes in the engines there fairly bright as well. Reading, writing reports and creeping around the firehouse at night.

Try the H501R, IMO the low isn't low enough on this one either. Look into the Photon Freedom, it comes in red and goes lower than you could possibly use.

Only downside to the Photon is the button cells, I would prefer to keep in the AA/AAA family

What about the Proton Pro, it has both a white and a red led, both with adjustable brightness and is a AA light?

I second the phone call to peak - they can do you a red output in many levels to suit your needs - I'm sure they can match the CMG low you have or lower. In AA or AAA format.

The red low I use is an old ARC AAA red, but they don't make them any more.

I would also recommend the Gerber Recon. Four low outputs ( well one white led and three other twist to select filters for RGB ) and one AA battery. A bit more bulky than the others but very versatile.

Also if you google Astronomy Flashlight, you will see many torches made for low light situations - Orion, Celestron and Rigel all make flashlights with variable level low light red outputs - some also have white and green as options.

Good luck.

Quark AA^2 Tactical with red filter? That way you can have 2 modes at your fingertips.

I've tried o-light filters that fit the Quark, they look more orange than red.

+1 I own one and love the red feature. Basically two lights in one.

Only downside to this light is that if you're going to be using red exclusively, it takes about a second to switch to red & ramp up (press & hold). On the other hand, it starts at a very dim red and goes up from there. Also it doesn't remember last setting. :(
