Red Lens for Streamlight UltraStinger or Stinger HP

Has anyone here ever used a red lens on one of their flashlights? I am looking into it for police work. It seems as if I am often looking at something at night and the white light affects my night vision. I have read that some officers use a red lens so that they can read, but not totally affect their night vision.

I've only seen a red filter for the "standard" (small) Stinger head. I've not seen/heard of a colored filter for the large head lights.
