Would it be possible (and or legal) to mod this weapon mounted laser from Red to green?

A simple swap with a Green 532nm module?

I'm sure you could fabricate something up, but for this application, aren't red lasers better?

Think about all the shock and vibration the DPSS unit would go through each time you pulled the trigger, being attached directly to the underside of the weapon.

The red laser is simple, its a board, diode, lense, and some batteries, and the diodes, in my experience, are very tough.

The green lasers consist of the board, 2 AAA batteries, the diode, then the entire crystal assembly. It may get jarred up quite a bit, as its not built to do much more then point. Its not quite as tough.

edit- I found this on Google, they claim to be the first to make one.

You could go for an IR laser and some night vision goggles for a Splinter Cell effect. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/naughty.gif

I can't tell for sure (I'm no expert) but to me, that looks like a Glock. A greenie on an airsoft gun is an entirely different critter than one on a actual firearm. While there are greenies designed for firearm mounting, I don't think you'd be able to swap them easily like that. .

Ive seen them airsoft guns on ebay, are they any good? Do they look real and are they durable construction? I thought about getting one and putting a greenie on it just to think I was cool /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/xyxgun.gif

Hi fellas-

The unit i have is a mil-spec weapon mounted laser. definately not a toy. I use it on my Glock 19 (9mm.) and a few other weapons of various caliber.

Right now there is only 1 manufacter that makes a milspec green laser (beamshot-greenbeam2000) the unit is big and intended for permament weapon mounting. (not practical)

The unit i have is not cheap ($300) I was curious to know if a "simple" mod could do the trick and make it a green laser but i see it's much more technical than i has assumed.

thanks for the help!

Ummm, if conditions are right, you paint me, and I know exactly where you are !!!

As manyclouds just stated, greenies are no good for field use, so I'd imagine the number of them out there is limited. By the effect of a green laser being seen in air. However, I do see the advantages for safety of a green laser sight, so people can see your line of fire and not cross that path!

+1 to what manyclouds and Airborne Spent said.

Unless you plan on using a green laser (assuming all the other technical and price chalenges to a DPSS green weaponmount are overcome. Doesn't SureFire make a green laser head for one of their standard weaponlight bodies?) you'd best be prepared to only use it only for target practice, or if tactically only in bright daylight, and switch to red for indoors or nighttime use.

The beam visibly points right back to you from many angles, and would be a distinct disadvantage in a fluid tactical situation, (a.k.a. a gunfight, a.k.a. SHTF. In all honesty, me personally, that's SHTP.. Hits The Pants :p ) unless you are part of a very large and overwhelming force. In that case, the kind of laser you get is probably determined by what's issued to you. :D
