Reflectors

Bob,

Many questions can be answered by reading the Welcome Mat. I'm not sure if this particular question is answered there so I will try to help.

A smooth reflector is usually associated with a tight spot and longer throw.
A textured reflector is usually associated with a larger spot and more spill and more of a flood type light.

What HTS said, plus:

Textured reflectors also tend to be more forgiving of irregularities in the light source, as the texturing causes the reflection of light to correct beam abberations. Some LEDs show shadows from their bond wires (incandescents do this quite often from filament supports), for example, and a textured reflector makes those vanish.
