Relatively unknown... but GREAT lights

Greetings!

Thread title says it all. What light or lights do you think are truly magnificent lights, but don't seem to be very well known or talked about... and why?

My #1 pick would be the Princeton Tec Impact XL. It hardly gets a mention when most people are looking for a decent runtime LED light. It gets an absolutely AMAZING 50+ hours on a set of 4 AA Alkaline primaries, many more hours (I got close to 70 during one of my tests) with Energizer Lithiums. Plus, this light is AWESOMELY durable... you can beat the hell out of it and it just keeps on working. It's a TRUE divelight, you can dunk it for days in over 100 feet of water and it won't leak. It has plenty of light output for common tasks, not really bright but easily capable of illuminating a good sized area. Finally, they're relatively inexpensive - under $40 in every store I've seen them available - often under $35. I love this light, but it hardly ever gets mentioned in "what light should I buy for..." threads.

Best wishes,
Bawko

Hello, Atomic -

As you, i really like my Princeton Tec Impact XL flashlight.

A fine choice when you don't need a LOT of output, like home use.

I notice that you always mention using L91 AA Lithium cells in yours --

Bought mine from Bright Guy, and his website stated specifically NOT to use Lithium cells with this flashlight.

NOTE: Not for use with lithium batteries

Can you shed some LIGHT on this subject ?

Thank you for your input.

Inova T1, virtually indestructible , a true workhorse I use everyday for work. I get it filthy, grimmy dirty, greasy, drop it, fling it, bang it up and I keeps on ticking. All that for around 30 bucks. I am looking forward to the new reflectored model though.

The Impact XL is one light I'd feel confident to use in emergencies, camping, lengthy hikes and long outages, etc. The lack of tremendous output, fancy features, and the plastic body may automatically preclude its consideration in many cases. The XL may be plain but it has a good combination of usable/reliable features for the long haul.

Unknown to most recent ( 2 years ) members, Mr Bulks creations, LionHeart/LionCub and Chameleon are simple lights with a side switch and full on electronics . George's drivers are 'state of the art' and its sad these are not better known and respected. They deserve it.

Greetings!

Thank you for your input.

I own 6 of these flashlights, and I've used lithium batteries in ALL of them almost from the time I bought them. I've owned them all for over a year now, and so far I haven't experienced any problems with them. Maybe some of the earlier batches were more voltage sensitive? I don't know... all I'm certain of is that mine have run fine so far with Lithiums.

I'd be interested in more information if there is a good reason NOT to be using lithiums... please keep me updated if you find out anything.

Best wishes,
Bawko

I think the Cyclops Xenon Sam's Club 2 for $12 is a great light. Great mod host. Great for the money. Waterproof, tactical switch, smooth threads. I wish I had bought more and not given so many away. It's relatively unknown becasue it's rarely talked about but I'm making a LUX III mod for it I'll be sharing soon.

i have a G&P single 123 cell light i paid about $19. for that i think is great. looks like a fenix P-1 and it is bright with plenty of throw.:grin2:

Pila lights. Just purchased the GL-2 version and it will run 6 hrs. on their Pila 600P rechargable, now that is some decent runtime!! And to boot the light is built like a tank and comes in a package that you would expect to see a Rolex in. Very, very nice!!

Most likely, meaning the 14500 lithium batteries, which put out 3.6 - 4.2 volts,
just a thought...,
Up until recently, whan someone said lithium, that is what was being referenced

Groovy - a light which until the recent crop of Cree and P4's was one of the brightest, whitest, cleanest, shiniest, grooviest (just had to add that :D ) most beautiful lights I owned. Comes with a NexGen 750 LuxIII or a POP2G module (similar to a FluPic). I think PhotonFanatic still has them on his web site too - never could understand why these didn't sell out fast - look like they belong on the console in a Rolls Royce. And a nice price for a one run custom.

i'm a big fan of PT lights as well. tec 40, rage, impact, all well built and well priced!

I have always like the Eveready Dolphin, It floats, its rugged, its affordable and it has a handle for easy carry

Pentagonlights L2,the HA III coating is the thickest hightest quality of any of the lights that I own.It also has an almost perfect white beam. It's made in the USA(if that's important to you),I got mine off EBay for $68.

UKE 2L. I bought one in 2002 when I joined and still have it. I recently replaced the lamp with a eLED (not zoom) and it's a keeper for sure. Ive sold an e2e-ha, g2z, inova x5, mag85, and plenty of streamlights and this is the only light besides an original arc aaa ive kept for 5 years.

Oh yeah, the 2L was my favorite for ages. Trouble is all small incan lights of this type are obsolete now (that includes the Princeton Tec lights a few others mentioned). If we're talking about cool old lights of the past, I'd like to include the Tekna Splashlite. The 2L with the eLED, hmm, maybe the internal side emitter could be replaced with a Cree somehow. I guess I wanted maximum throw from my 2L, given its tight reflector, so I kept the xenon lamp in it. I still have it around somewhere and thought about getting the new 4 watt lamp for it but frankly the XR-E lights will still crush it even on one 123 or AA.

I sure do like the Suprabeam I picked up a couple weeks ago. Nice heft, very nicely
finished and very bright. Beam is slightly ringy but a real nice light.

Maybe UKE will introduce a cree replacement module in the future :). I think theyve done a good job with keeping up with new tech.
