I have a customized torch, with 3 modes, the default mode is high mode, i like it,except one thing i can't tolerate torch change mode if OFF and ON for 5 minutes! i know little about the torches, but in my view, an ideal torch need reset the default mode within less sec.. 2s, or 1s.. what's your preference?

What is the ideal mode change delay for multi stage light?

Ideal Mode Change in Seconds

1. 0.5
2. 1 or 2
3. 5
4. 10
5. 300

I personally see no reason in such a long reset time to default mode. Especially not in a 3-stage light. Maybe it makes some more sense in torches that have more than 3 stages (plus several "disco-modes"). So for me and in my understanding of how it has to be done, a delay time of 1 second would fit the bill! But that is just my 2 cents.

Frankly spoken, a memory feature - if ever needful - only makes sense in a tactical light in a tactical situation and real multi-mode - torches with disco-modes.

I don't buy lights that revert back to any default mode at any time. Memory mode is the only way to go, then I can rely on my lights to be what I want them to be.

I seem to agree with u~~~

Hi Jash, Memory feature is useful, but one reply i got " because if you switch off the light...... after a few minutes or few days you will not know what level it was and it will always be a big surprise " i think this will become a problem..

ideal is when you are able to choose the behavior.

So if u want it start on high, thats what you choose. If you want memory, than choose memory. If you want it to start on any other level - yep, do it!

Now go buy a HDS light :)

It doesn't become a problem if you know your lights and use them regularly. I use mine everyday and if I had to cycle through the modes to get where I wanted it would be pain in the neck. Regardless of which light I pick up and choose to use I know exactly where it will be when I turn it on, no suprises.

For instance, my TK40 is always turned off on high, so I know that when I turn it on it will always be on high. My Quark Tactical is always bezel loose at 85 lumens, then I tighten it at bed time and know that when I click it on during the night it will be 3 lumens, and then loosen it in the morning.

It's like that with all my lights that have memory. No big deal unless you suffer dimentia.
