Resistor wattage

Can I substitute a 1.2 ohm, 3 watt resistor for a direct drive circuit that calls for a 1.2 ohm, 1 watt resistor? As far as I know, it should deliver the same current, right? Anything else I should be aware of? (I have the 3 watt resistors on hand already).

yes definatly, better to have ample wattage rating so cooling of it is better, specially when the ratings are based somewhat on the avilalability of cooling, vrses being crammed into a sealed pocket .

Are the tolerances roughly the same?

Yes, you can always use a resistor of higher wattage.

Physical size is the only issue.

My 3 watt resistor is 5% tolerance. I don't have 1 watt resistors to compare tolerances to, and the LED calculator didn't specify tolerance.

Physical size won't be an issue in this application. Looks like I have my answer. Thanks, all!

How much power is the resistor dissipating? It is rated at 1 watt after all.

[Edit] Sorry I had it backward. As far a power dissipation, a 3 watt resister will do just fine replacing a 1 watt resistor. [End edit]
