Resistors/regulators for LED\'s in AA dummies

I happened to open up 3 large handheld CB Radios I bought in the early 80's at RadioShack. Each had 2 dummy AA cells inside so the radio could be loaded with either 8 Alkaline AA's plus 2 dummies or with 10 rechargeables.

The dummies are semi-cylindrical hollow plastic with circular end caps and a connector strip running the length. Any ideas for how to set up resistors / regulators inside these dummies for the 5W LS?

WOW! don't you (read as most, if not all of us CPFers) ever throw anything away?

Actually, I have those from RS in Metal, also from some old CB radios...

City:

I didn't mention the aluminum ones with round ends and a 1/8" slab running from top to bottom. I didn't think they were modifiable. They came in the 5W 40 channel radio. The others came in 1 W radios with two hand picked crystals plus channel 16.

A resistor should be do-able. A piece of copper and dielectric on one end with the resistor in between. A regulated AA shell is a bit of work. You would have to reengineer the circuit board to fit... like the Zetec project may be possible because of the amount of pieces... I have thought about it too, but it's a lot of planning and testing.
It would be a nice retrofit for a lot more applications than the Mag-AA.
