Weird, eh? But with flashlights all over my house and car, I found the Arc AAA was just fine for the brightness I needed and I appreciate its more pocketable profile. Goes to show, sometimes bigger isn't always better.

I know what you're saying Frangible. I'm in the process of going thru that same experience. I've only been carrying a stock Arc-AAA and Lux-III modded Arc-AAA and guess what? They've been handling my everyday needs.

hey guys ... you are soooo reasonable /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
where's the lust for power? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/evilgrin07.gif

seriously ... if I wanted to use my EDC once in a while in an urban enviroment, an AAA wouldn't be of much use. I need at least an LS.

I retired my Arc AAA for a Photon II a month or so ago. I did it when I added a Spyderco Jester to my keyring, and having both the Arc and the Jester there made the keychain a little unwieldy. Even though I already had several Photons, I couldn't resist getting the green-cased one that matches the Jester. It's just sweet. I do still pop the Arc back on the keychain (BP Mini-clip) if I expect I'll need it, but for occasional unexpected use, the Photon is plenty.

Like I have posted before on the ArcAAA, I don't want a brighter light if runtime is sacrificed. If I want a brighter light with less runtime I have many options available including a nano-mate. I am truly hoping Eveready will come thru with lithium AAA's to give the light if not a longer runtime, at least a flatter discharge curve. I emailed Eveready two weeks ago enquring about the battery and never received a reply.

If you do have something like the AAA, then an LS seems to be a bit redundant. I usually carry a 5mm light or two, and my L4. The brightness on my L4 is so much brighter than the 5mm lights, that I find it is worth carrying.

I don't need more than my scratched and usefull AAA in my keychain with a "utily-key" swiss-tech tool that I use more than my LSF in my other pocket, so, actually my "buck up" light is my LS. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/naughty.gifArc 4+ coming over?, mmmmmmm

I do that several times a week - and the reverse!

Actually, they both sit on my dresser each night, when I get dressed I grab the LS if I'm in jeans, and the AAA for something dressier. It's the pocket bulge problem. Same thing with my three EDC knives, one is for dress carry only.

There are times when carrying the AAA that I've wished I had the LS with me, but only very very rarely do I have the LS with me and wish I had the AAA instead.

L4 all the way baby. I just wish I could adjust the brightness. I'm trying to make a dual 3watter with adjustable output, but haven't had a lot of time to devote to the project so far. That will eventually be my ideal light if I can pull it off - small, runs on PILA's, adjustable from Arc AAA brightness all the way up to small sun kinda bright ! I guess that's the ever sought after holy graille of LED flashlights though. Hopefully I can pull it off.

I carry the LS in my front jeans pocket because I don't wear them too tight, the light hangs from the belt loop with a string inside the pocket, I find this way very comfortable to take the light all day with me, otherwise, we have more daylight now than in winter so obviously we use less artificial light to see /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

I carry a Turbo Nano Mate and an Arc N on my keychain, both are the same size.. small, and meet all my lighting needs for the most part. Use the nanomate when I need brightness, the arc N for runtime like reading or wandering around at night, etc.
