RIP Donald Sutherland

Sgt Oddball in Kelly's Heroes. He was one of the best character actors

Damn. He was one of those actors that I could enjoy even if he was just reading the phone book. He threw himself into his roles with such authenticity. RIP sir.

I even liked him in The Simpsons.
Not necessarily his lines but to this day I still use the words cromulent and embiggened.

I saw a late-night interview with him. He told an amusing story about his experience making Animal House. He didn't think much of the story or the movie's chances of doing well. When offered either a bigger salary or smaller salary with a piece of the "back-end" (box office earnings) he chose the latter. He said it ending up costing him millions!

I can still see Donald Sutherland in this great old film ...

"I realized fear one morning, with the blare of the fox hunter's sound. When they're all chasin' the poor bloody fox, 'tis safer to be dressed as a hound."

- Liam Devlin, in the 1976 film The Eagle Has Landed

And probably always will.

Rest in peace. Well done.

Donald was amazing over his long career, I don't know the half of it. I did like his role in Backdraft, as Ronald the pyromaniac.
