[FONT=Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif]Now while most people viewed Ed McMahon as Johnny Carson's sidekick on the Tonight Show for about thirty years. And of course that is true, but how many know that Ed McMahon was a Marine Pilot during WW II? When Pearl Harbor was attacked, Ed joined the Marines. He was carrier qualified which some former pilots refer to as a 'controlled crash'. At the end of the war, Ed stayed in the USMC as a reserve officer.
He was recalled to active duty during the Korean War. He flew 85 combat missions over North Korea After the Korean War ended Ed McMahon stayed with the Marine Corps as a reserve officer and retired in 1966 as a Colonel.
