Squirrels are smart little critters. We used to hand-feed a female squirrel where we used to live. She disappeared one day and a couple weeks later showed up with her babies to introduce them to us.

Something is fishy about this story. First, there are no known cases of squirrels developing rabies and transmitting it to humans. Rabies usually come from bats which have opposite sleep cycles as squirrels so it is very rare that a squirrel would even get rabies. Second, this squirrel was the most popular squirrel in the world on TikTok and lived exclusively indoors with people for 7 years. From a government agency that is supposed to be have expertise on this matter and the search warrant signed by judges to execute this squirrel and a raccoon (testing them for rabies involves killing them first), which were the cornerstone of the animal rescue center and main source of revenue, I don't buy for one second that this was an accident. You don't use that much manpower and government resources and have enough evidence for a kill order "search warrant" based on supposed anonymous complaints. That's another name for hearsay and not enough for a warrant. More than likely, a land developer who wanted the property bribed some government officials to make this happen to bankrupt the owner so they could swoop in and get the land.
I hope the state and the real culprit pulling the strings have a lawsuit coming from the owners and Elon Musk helps them out with financing the lawyers as he's already taken some interest with his tweets. Many have already pointed out that this is how the movie John Wick got started.

Well, he bit the guy taking him away from his family, so he had some idea something bad was about to happen.
If they had actually believed the animals carried rabies and were living in the home with people, common sense says they would have done a blood test on the humans and quarantined them for safety. Instead, the family had to learn from others that their beloved animals had been killed. If you think people have been exposed to an infectious disease, you keep them in the loop about if the animals tested positive or negative. No mention of the test results have even been made. I doubt they even did the test for rabies.

It was not about rabies, the testing story does not pass a BS meter. That is pretty much a gvmnt overreach. We gave them way too much unchecked power. And they abuse it to no end. I heard a rumor the whole thing started when an angry youtuber reported them cuz she was furious that the peanut had more followers than her.

Don't know about rumors but ded pets for no other reason than to make them ded is sick.
They could have done tests to be sure they were coodie free (even made the owner pay for the tests) and then made them get lic as required.

Yes, they are blaming it on some Karen Youtuber. I don't buy it. You don't get four government agencies and a judge to sign off on a search warrant to murder two pets that are the livelihood of a family and their animal rescue farm on the word of some random online out of state Youtuber who claims the animals may have rabies. There was money and influence behind this hit squad. It wasn't an accident or a mistake. Whether it was a land developer bribing government officials or the government just using the rabies story as an excuse to go after the family for not having a permit for the animals in their home is yet to be seen. Whatever the case, there must be severe consequences for the state of New York and a massive restriction on their power going forward. If they can do this to your beloved pets without consequence, they can do it to you.

There are millions of rats in New York City, yet they kill the only trained squirrel in the state. They took a hit out on P'nut the squirrel and Fred the raccoon. Were they looking for Rocky and Bullwinkle and screwed up the hit?
Yup they seem to go out of the way to protect the real criminals.
