k what I found on ebay. Although not an "exact" replica, a lot of the design seems to have been copied.
X5T lookalike on ebay

Then again, not quite a rip off. Sure, the external look of the body may be a design copy with those flutes along the side, but that head is quite different.

And if you read the description, it says that it runs on 2 AA batteries and has a voltage doubler in the head. The X5 runs 2 CR123 batteries. Heaps more expensive for about the same runtime. And doesn't use any form of electronics to regulate the power, except for a simple resistor/current limiter, which means the LEDs are being quite severely overdriven and probably won't last their rated life time.

This flashlight, especially at $22, sure looks like a keeper and something worth having. Think about it, a MiniMag-sized light running cheap AA batteries in a 2-in-series configuration. The closest competitor is the Opalec NewBeam which has been tested and given CPF approval, but has only 3 LED output though a very flat discharge curve.

Hmm... Been browsing around his site. I wonder who he is, if he is reliable, if anyone has done business with him? Seems to have some cool stuff on his site. 7LED headlamp with micro-processor control to allow 3 modes of brightness. Something that looks like the Petzl Tikka, but with 5LEDs. And then the X5 lookalike.

That is a very attractive light. I just placed a bid.

It says the auction is closed with no bids. Just what exactly are the Hewlett Packard LEDs and how do they compare with Nichia's?

The same person has another auction here. Wish I knew the answers to those questions before I decided I had to have this light.

I'm glad to see it caught your eye as well. Maybe this thing actually delivers. Are you familiar with the LED's? We seem to have similar tastes. You see, I too have a Euro-Pro Bagless Stick Shark.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">Actually, I haven't haunted ebay in months until just a few days ago when I started looking for a birthday present. The light looks decent, but I've never seen a HP white LED so I have no way to comment on them. I do like my "vaccume" though.

Hmmm... I just noticed something.

What is that symbol up there at the top of each message? Is it a pisser? A bathtub? A sink?

It's Dog tags Craig. Unless you really want it to be something else...
