has anybody had any experience with the expensive rolex factory service? are they worth the the extra cost? mine has problems.

IMHO, No. The reason I say this is that there used to be only on 'authorized' service center in Los Angeles; they were the "authorized" center since the late 80's.
Anyways, they wanted to expand their service center, and work on the other brands, but Rolex.
Long story short, a "minor" overhall at Rolex is something like $550 plus parts; the former service ccenter is half that, and they still use genuine Rolex parts
