ROP Charging??

[Scared of the dark]

I'm in the middle of building a 4D ROP.
If I wire the ends of the charger leads into a standard PR bulb base could i use this to charge the batteries while in the mag body e.g.
1. Remove head and bulb
2. Insert charger PR base and secure
3. Switch on maglite to complete circuit
4. turn on charger.

My reasoning for this is i can fit a wallwart in my carry bag but not a full size charger(using loose sub-c's not a stick)

Any help is appreciated.

EDIT: lighthound.com provides quick delivery up here for the ROP bulbs, i recieved mine this morning, only took 5 working days
