I've got a ROP low bulb sitting around and another 2D I got from Lowes. Can I use 6AA alkalines and a ROP low without melting the plastic or poofing the bulb?

What are some 6AA alkaline bulbs I can use with a stock 2D?

I had the same Q, but can I run this setup with Eneloops?

The Pelican 3854 LOLA ( ROP low ) is an 11 watt, 1.87A lamp. The experts around here say that about 10 watts is the limit when using the stock mag reflector. I think you can get buy with it for shorter periods of use.

The Eneloops will handle the lamp just fine, I don't know what the alkalines can handle.

The Energizer L91 Lithium's can handle a 2A constant draw and a 3A short burst draw: http://data.energizer.com/PDFs/l91.pdf

I asked this question a while ago, but can't find the thread. I think the answere where that it was ok for a couple of minutes. I haven't tried it myself though(haven't got my ROP to work yet...).
I don't think alkalines will work, or that long. I'm no expert, but I think they will "sag" cause of the too heavy workload.

EDIT: Found the thread.

And you could use Magnum star bulbs (6D maglite) for your configuration.

Like Pokerstud said, Eneloops will have no problems at all with the ROP low bulb.

With alkalines, I don't think you have any danger of meltdowns, but that is because I doubt they will run that bulb for more than a couple of minutes. The current draw is just too much. You'd have better luck with the Maglite 6-cell bulbs (either the Magnum Star or the White Star), but even they will draw almost an amp, which is still a bit too much for alkaline AAs. Take a look at the alkaline battery shootout thread for more info.

alkaline won't work very well for anything that involves a bulb, avoid alkaline at all costs. On an ROP low it would be almost useless.
