This runtime plot is for an Inova X-0. 2x123 Duracell Ultra 123 batteries were used in this runtime plot.

Equipment used is a Extech Mdl 401021 Light Adapter into a Radio Shack 22-805 multimeter with a PC interface that is using ScopeView Software (V 1.08).

The vertical axis is in 0.120 vDC per division which is equivalent to 120 Fc @ I Ft per division. The horizontal axis is 30 minutes per division.

Be aware that yor actual batteru milage may vary from that indicated by this runtime plot.

The runtime to 50% of max brightness = 4h 8m

Here is the FIRST plot that I did:

Notice that the brightness started to increase as soon as I started the test. I figured that the X-0 was getting hot under the beanbag that was holding it steady, so I turned on the ceiling fan to move some air over the test set-up. You can see where it cooled off.

The trash at the end of the plateau supprised me. Thought the overheating might be the cause. I ran a second plot but without the beanbag, but still got the trash at the end of the plateau. It must have something to do with the X-0 reaching the end of regulation and it starts over-driving.

At the end of 8 hours, the X-0 was still putting out 46 Fc of light! So it depends on just what Inova is claiming.

Sort of close to 4hr flat runtime of KL1, but higher output in a less expensive package.

Thanks Roy. This is certainly better than every estimate I came up with. Mine with fresh cells was drawing 300 mA. A rough guess then at 1.75 W. If it could regulate down to 1.7 V per cell my best estimate was a little over 3 Wh per cell. Regulated run time would then be 3.4 hours. What I find interesting is the glitch at near to this time as if switching modes of regulation? I've got to build a jig to test mine to see actual current draw at different voltages.

Maybe their 8 hr criteria is bright enough to go find new cells!

Best,
George

So the overall output of 20 in the review makes the 32 lumens in the specs seem a bit optimistic, if the KL1 is 21.5, on that relative scale.

The KL1 is still impressive at a pretty flat 5hrs. Is the Inova brighter at .70 than the KL1 is at 1.50 or are the scales different? The KL1 is relatively inexpensive if you've already got an E2E. If not, a 2x123 UBH + Z52 or Z57 is cheaper than an E2E.

Roy, thanks for doing this plot. Does 720 Footcandles at 1 foot equal 720 Lux at 1 meter?

I'm ordering one of these to check it out and depending on the character of the beamspot it looks promising.

BC.....that's what I've been told and seen in print. I suspect that "equivalent" is a better word to use rather than "equal".

1Fc @ 1Ft = 1Lux @ 1M
