Re: SF finish Q: were all E2D's hard anodize

Thanks, archimedes, but that's my problem. The tailcap, which, according to everything I have read, almost has to be TypeIII, is much glossier than the body and bezel, like it is TypeII....

To complicate things a bit more I have some older black Scoutlight Z68 tailcaps that are quite shiny, but are definitely type III. They seem to have had some level of polishing to them. Either that or more care was just taken during the anodizing process with these to ensure the finish is more uniform.

Seems as a relevant discussion was held ... oh, about 5 years ago ... and the resident SureFire expert confirmed this (at least with regard to the Z68) - ;)

Another example are the Valiant Concepts VME heads used to house Malkoff's on e-series compatible lights. Definitely very shiny, polished black finish and definitely type III.

It matches my old polished Z68 almost perfectly. Now if only I could find a body that matches both as well as they match each other.

I guess I am going to have to concede that this tailcap is TypeIII, despite the gloss, and having heard NO evidence of Defender tailcaps ever being made in TypeII finish. In the link that samuraishot posted above, the finish on mine (both body and tailcap) most closely resembles the E2e in the 'Exx-series' section, item 'J'. (Mine, of course, is a Defender, not an E2e.)

Thanks to everyone here who has contributed research and expertise to further my knowledge. It was certainly educational, and I do appreciate it.
